On average, about 4 minutes :D Seriously, I use a 5 on stocks and sometimes I find myself saying "c'mon hurry up and print already. The market's moving."

Well if this guy doesn't stick to his trading plan and soon, APHIE will become delisted and reassigned as APHIQ :D

Giants or Angels World Series 2002

That monkey phenonemon sure is something - gotta love that team. I don't believe in destiny but it sure seems like they are on a mission. I think the spanking they gave the Yankees gave them a sense of "we can beat anyone". They surely deserve to win after all they've done this season. It's a...

I can just imagine how many trades a plan like that would require. You'd get stopped out practically as fast as you get filled.

I'll tell you what keeps me in line: My wife and 13-month-old daughter. I want them to live well and have all that they need. Kinda gives me the impetus not to be reckless with the old trading account. Back when I was young and single I didn't give as much of a shit as I do now, so maybe...

And I'm sure you're right, but the fact is, a lot of that may be already priced in. We just don't know. Point is, it doesn't matter what you THINK or HOPE will happen. What IS happening is all that matters. And what's happening is that we're trending up so ride the trend. It may end on the next...

That mid-day consolidation period yesterday on IBM was just that; a consolidation. Markets never run straight up or down. They need time to balance out. That does not mean it was a shorting opportunity, since lower lows and lower highs were not being made. Pateince, man, will do you wonders in...

Aphie - try swingtrading using the 30-minute bar. It gives you a better picture of trends. It's my favorite for anything other than daytrading. It paints a more accurate picture than the daily. Looking at yesterday's 30-minute bars I think you would see that it wasn't the day to go short...

hey it may even poke it's head above the 200-day ma again like Dec-Jan. The nasdaq above its 200-day; now that's something you haven't heard much in the last 2+ years.

    sen.wellstone drops the market...

Also interesting that Kennedy was in MN at the time. People have a strange habit of getting dead around them and the Clintons. And here's an irony: Wellstone was on his way to a friend's funeral, of all things.

    Active Traders

There's absolutley no predictive value in technical analysis or indicators with the *possible* exception of fibonacci and elliot wave. You can guess at it but that's about all it is - a guess. Candle patterns and TA in general tell you how to react to future price movements based on past...

South - I'm using the same trading plan on es/nq as I do on the techs/bios/internet/etc, just with 2-minute bars instead of 5. Reason is I just don't want to wait 5 minutes for an entry or exit if the es starts moving fast. Other than that, trading the es/nq is not as bad as many will lead...

    Newbie questions.

The beta of the ES and the SPY is 1.0 = exactly that of the index itself. By definition beta is referenced off the S&P in the first place. It's like saying what's the specific gravity of water - 1.0 - the reference point. Personally, I get greater thrills trading KLAC QLGC CCMP MXIM etc, all...

Bingo. We're not paid to predict; we're paid to react accordingly to price action. Nothing more, nothing less. Let the prognosticators wear suits and sit in from of CNBC cameras all day. They get paid regardless.

I try to avoid the 11-11:15 ET through about 1:30 range, give or take. The volume dries up and the breakouts tend to be false. Sometimes you can get a short going in and it will fade lower, but usually it's more risk than reward during the NY lunch period.
