    The vertical flip experiment

Thanks Ilan. Still waiting for responses! I do think a feature like that would be great to add to any platform. For those with my problem, it could be a game-changer.

    The vertical flip experiment

ok so this might seem a little off the wall, but I have an inexplicable fear of shorting. Consequently I've missed many exceptional opportunities to profit from that. I trade the YM. Seems when the index futures fall they do so faster and deeper than they rise (anyone who has good info to the...

Took out a loan to transition to full-time trading. 24 years old.

Loans for trading is, as a rule, pretty risky and generally I'd think no one including me would ever recommend it. But I did just that last fall. I had lost a few thou over the past year trading recklessly and disregarding proper risk control. By the time I learned enough to begin the process of...

    Where are the bears?

I like your optimism Turveyd. And I agree long as it's moving. That was a particularly galling night for me - had I stayed in that trade for a couple more minutes a fairly hefty gain would've been delivered. Ah well, comes with the territory I guess. Occasionally we do catch the larger moves :-)

    Where are the bears?

Ouch indeed. These days I only trade the after hours YM. The day sessions have just become too much of a snake pit with mine fields. But that's a discussion for another thread.. here I'm going to ask - last eve (Oct 31) I was in a trade getting frustrated waiting for a move up, until I finally...

    Earn 2 Trade the gauntlet

So thinking about trying The Gauntlet. I normally avoid companies that advertise a trading trial for possible placement with a prop firm, since most are obviously just selling training. But I've so far not seen any complaints about earn2trade, and most important looks like people are actually...

    Ever feel like giving up?

Stop trading the day market. I'm serious - it's a snakepit of insider market movers, which is why it's like a freakin casino. 96% of day traders don't ultimately fail for nothing - for all the 'experts' professing that the financial markets aren't rigged, in reality they are. Which is why the...

Man I sure don't like the last part of your last sentence HobbyT. :-)

Copy that LacesOut :-) Actually Fan27 also has a good point re programming. I may create and license a program via e.g. Quantopian. There's more than one way to stay involved with some aspect of trading. I just have to suppress procrastination and do it.

I hadn't intended to return to anything having to do with trading during that time - it was just ongoing curiosity, thinking I might notice patterns worth taking a second look at. Regarding programming, I made my living as a programmer several years before. Also, more recently I did in fact...

True hedge fund investors borrowing/leveraging against assets isn't tapping a credit card, they live in a different world. I did learn they do sometimes borrow to invest, just didn't get the stats on how often they do it so thx for the clarification Sig.

Agreed it is a bad idea. But, having some hard-won experience compels finding a way to re-enter this work. Stats of 96% failure by 'small undercapitalized outsiders' doesn't exactly make the case for venturing into the day markets so when or if possible and safe it will be the overnight market...

Excellent points on the reality of paper trading, and on borrowing funds for trading. My major frustration is that I lost miserably trading the day session insider snake pit many years ago before finally giving up. Since then, for the past 10 years I've been tracking the Dow nearly every day...
