    The Importance of Simplicity

At the moment, the hard way, i.e. by hand and updating in a spread sheet everyday. Starting a new study requires a huge amount of input to bring in the past occurances up to date. the more data you use the the bigger the task (unfortunately). But I've been recording this kind of thing now for...

    The Importance of Simplicity

Ok - It tried to go through the bottom line then rebounded back. the 1015-10.30 bar gave me a nice down trend line and as soon as I had a lower low on that bar, I went short on the basis that it was a pretty good probability that it would now go through the bottom having failed to get anywhere...

It's 2.30 here. I'm getting my dates confused now. My appologies. Natalie

This one was a bit of a no-brainer but it gives you the idea. Natalie

    The Importance of Simplicity

Hmmmmmmmm. yep you're describing what I can see in a 10 min bar with higher highs and higher lows with a line under it. in the first part, and describing one of my fears in the second. It's not quite what is on my mind though but I'm thinking along the lines of transferring that idea into...

    The Importance of Simplicity

That's a lot to swallow. I already have a strategy for entering existing trends, which is again based upon either 10, 15 or 30 min bars, where basically I draw a line underneath (again looking long for sakes of simplicity), and then I simply try to buy into it as bear to the...

Yes Cathy - agreed - all I've ever managed to do with more complicated approaches is lose heavily... :( Natalie

    The Importance of Simplicity

I seem to be up late again... Ok Guys. Something I've picked up on is the question of retracements being better entry points, so I've pulled up some charts and been looking back. It seems to me that there could be something in that, but rather as a sepparate strategy. the problems as I see...

    The Importance of Simplicity

Wow Nitro, I used to try and combine lots of different things and just ended up confused. Don't you ever get confused and wonder which of the 27 are telling you the truth and which are not? I went away from that approach, and simplfied out because all I want to know is general direction...

    The Importance of Simplicity

Yes. I have retracements incorporated into another basic strategy I use, although I never really thought of it in that way... Again, pretty simple to use, and also quite profitable. The problem with that strategy of mine (not really related to what your saying btw) is that it only comes into...

    The Importance of Simplicity

Oh boy - have I ever got that T-shirt! Not so much recently though. It's been more about making little improvements for the past couple of years... Natalie

    The Importance of Simplicity

I've manage to find a solution to what I was saying before about it all defaulting to 10.00 I can now make 16 min and 17 min bars default to midnight, which changes the aspect of the charts completely. A cursory glance shows an improvement to the overall approach I've been using and removes some...

    The Importance of Simplicity

Wally, I can send you the 24 hours continuous file for ES if that would help. The one I sent was the closest match to normal trading hours that I have. This file would be OHLC midnight to midnight and not just 8-30 till 4. let me know if you'd like it. Sorry, I can't extrapolate the 8.30...

    The Importance of Simplicity

hi Db Good point. Seeing as how I don't know what I'm doing 3/4 of the time how could anyone else have any clue... That's why I need a simple approach that even I can't get wrong :D Natalie

    The Importance of Simplicity

Actually, funny you should mention that, but - Yes I have - only problem was that the system defaulted them to start the 3rd bar at 10.00 which didn't help much, and started the first bar at 9.20 which was even less help. It doesn't seem to matter what size of bar, they all deafult to 10 a.m...

Yes Mike. That's the same for me too. I'm learning a lot from this conversation, looking at the same from a slightly different angle... :) Natalie

    The Importance of Simplicity

Much of what I am doing is deiscretionary, and it's based upon, I've made this mistake before so I'm not going to fall for that one again... I know that there are many ways in which I could make much more, but, I like to sleep at night without the pressure on me. :) I'm not very good at...

    The Importance of Simplicity

Yes Db, I agree, and I'm looking abck historically to try to ascertain a pattern in this so that I can modify and refine my method still further. My concern with using longer time frames is that it will erode profits while reducing losses. I generally stay out anyway immediately before big news...
