From a free market standpoint I totally agree with you. The problem is with margin calls. I hate to see traders have their positions liquidated by a computer sending market orders into a broken market and getting wiped out.

If you want to juice your local economy, do the exact opposite of this. What if you said lower taxes for the rich in your state? Wouldn't that provide an incentive for rich people to move in with all their money? Give a rebate, not a sales tax, for purchasing items that were produced locally...

They pay many many millions in commissions to the exchanges. As long as they do, they will have more clout than you and me.

But all the buyers did disappear. To fix your analogy, it would be better not to sue in the first place. As in, be a market participant, but when the market goes tipsy turvy, don't even try to help fix it by adding liquidity because you'll get burned beyond simply making an unprofitable trade...
