Using a hedge instead of a stop

I didn't think OP was talking about edge. Just using it other than a stop. I could be wrong though. Re-read OP you clown.

Using a hedge instead of a stop

I see you and totally agree. I think this deals more with time than anything. You enter a position, obviously you have to be sure on the direction. You lock in your loss with the hedge, but this allows for it to turn around within time. I like the idea of this, but your almost better off using...

    What are your thoughts?

The only thing I have a problem with though, Is when people cheat. Or "hack" in video games. This is like when enron traders used to buy energy. Then they would tell the plants in california to go down for "maintenance" and then sell the energy and astronomically high prices. This is...

    What are your thoughts?

I think the problem lies within people's views of the stock market and themselves. Everyone is in the stock market to MAKE MONEY. The market is a zero sum game. That means there is a winner and a loser in every trade. That means for the average investor or trader, in order to be a winner, has to...

    What are your thoughts?

Yeah I agree with most of it also. Although, I thought it was obvious? I mean whatever you do in life, there is 'usually' going to be someone better than you at it. Life is usually never fair. I feel bad for this guy because he's in the industry and feels the way he does.

Black Friday PC Deals (Help Me Choose)

I've been building computers for 5 years now, so I know what performance certain parts will get you. Anything you buy these days for over I'd say maybe $400 or $500 will be more than enough for your trading.

    Exploring GordonTheGekko's "guessing" strategy

Good edges from my little knowledge, are a dime a dozen. A percent would do for a exit in the case of his strategy. "Do your research and take a stand. If you are wrong, get out."

    Safer option strategies

That is something you would have to test and work out yourself. Just a little number crunching would be needed. I would buy 100% of puts at like 80ish percent of purchase, just because I can deal with a little risk. Plus the reason for buying the puts is to prevent something catastrophic...

    Safer option strategies

No sir, I mean yes you would hold the shares, but you would hedge your position buying puts against say 80% of your position to minimize risk. You would collect the difference between the dividend payments you receive and the cost of the hedge. No covered calls, to me that's not the best way to...

    Safer option strategies

Cruched the numbers on $100,000 worth of AT&T shares. You would make 2% a year trading the next month contract for an 100% hedge of your position.

    Safer option strategies

You said you don't want to own any stock outright, but I have a suggestion. Why not buy a bulk of shares paying a hefty dividend, and hedge most of your position. This would eat up some of the dividend payments your receiving but hey, easy low risk money.
