    HPE Earnings Tomorrow

I'm thinking of holding through earnings. I like what HP is doing: 1. They spun off their consumer stuff (laptops, printers, etc.) into a separate legal entity; namely, HPQ. I see these as a bit of a declining industry, so it's good for HPE 2. They recently bought Silicon Graphics International...

AAPL - Tim Cook - Not very innovative

Mr. Cook hasn't really cooked up anything new and interesting at Apple. He's basically still riding on Jobs' initiatives. What has he done? 1. Retina screen. Nice, but not terribly innovative. 2. iPad Mini, iPad Pro, iPhone 6/6s... really all just another play on screen sizes. Incidentally, the...

Postal Service dropping mail prices for first time in 100 years - Anyone else short?

Anybody else smart enough to short postage stamps this year? I shorted 100,000 $10 rolls of stamps during Christmas season last year; picked up a cool 4% on the recent price drop from $0.49 to $0.47. Heh heh heh... suckers! :p...

How would a programming job for a big financial firm affect day trading?

Goddammit... would you people please stop making sense? My God the truth hurts. Well, I suppose that it's better than getting tossed in the clink. Any of you seen the movie Wall Street?

How would a programming job for a big financial firm affect day trading?

Eek... this stuff is no joke, eh? NO SHORTS!? What if a stock is plunging and Benjamin wants to get onboard?

How would a programming job for a big financial firm affect day trading?

Thanks everybody for your responses. This position (like most C++ positions), would require significant access, as Benjamin would be part of the team that supports the major plumbing of the firm. He'd be ensuring proper order flow from the firm's brokers to the exchanges, etc.

How would a programming job for a big financial firm affect day trading?

A company is interested in hiring "Benjamin" as a C++ developer, supporting trading systems for a relatively large (Market Cap > $1B USD) investment bank in NYC. Said firm is a "FINRA-registered broker-dealer." How would Benjamin's acceptance of a professional position with this firm affect his...

    "Use Limit Orders"

..only to helplessly watch as the price hovers one penny away from your limit order, rockets in the other direction, and the opportunity is missed. ;) If I want to get in, long or short, I buy in. If I want out, I get out.

    "Use Limit Orders"

A few months back, after some research, I stopped using limit orders. As a Computer Programmer, I am well aware of how easily algos can be run to manipulate a price against standing limit orders (think 0+ algos and their relatives). That's a game that I can't win. I can't change the algos run...

    Apple Pencil

I ask from the standpoint of a consumer, not an investor. My friend asked for an iPad recommendation for his grandson. Regardless, thanks for the advice... and I agree.

    Apple Pencil

(Putting this in Programming because it seems to be the best fit) I'm comparing the iPad Air 2 vs the iPad Pro (9.7" screens). Aside from the option for a bigger (12.9") screen, it seems that the only real difference between the Air 2 and the Pro is the Apple Pencil. Anyone worked with the...

    Order Flow Fundamentals

I do have a question. In my experience, unless you're paying big bucks for deep book data (think tens of thousands), they don't seem to be very accurate. I was on the phone with my broker and a nyse rep about this arguing the point. Deep book data was not matching up with orders that I knew...

Finland to experiment with basic income

You know, I was in the grocery store the other day, and saw a woman buy three big fat live lobsters on a government card. I stood there with my ground beef @2.99/lb, and wondered why I have worked my whole life, and never bought lobsters like that.

What is the job title for this function?

It's really about the underlying conditions with this technology. It's been 10 years since the iPhone was released; it's time for something new. My office is cluttered with devices of every kind--I'm even giving them away now--but I'm not really buying anything, because there's nothing...

What is the job title for this function?

 Thanks. Following the PC, Internet, iPhone/tablet, I've been wearing out my keyboard for months trying to identify the next big tech gadget. In consumer, my best answer is these smartglasses; or, more broadly, smart visual devices. Google actually has a smart contact lens.
