    explain 'scalping' to a newbie

Because futures orders are filled on TIME priority. Who ever is first, gets the first fill. Because of this, when a level moves up or down, a retail trader does NOT have the speed that a firm with a computer 50 feet from the exchange, to place their bid before the big boys do. This makes it...

High Frequency Trading: Can Any Stock Replace Citigroup?

NICE! Hopefully I'll be doing that many shares in the future ;) . Yesterday was actually my least volume day in a while ironically! I only trade the last hour because of my school, and C basically died that last hour.

High Frequency Trading: Can Any Stock Replace Citigroup?

Although I agree with the parity part (It is really simple :) ), the more profitable methods for HFT are rebating faster stocks like BAC and F (and S today). I am still a beginner, so parity is still my main method, however I am incorporating the more profitable, rebating strategies as well...

An Example of my HFT: Today I made a profit of $96 gross on 44k shares trading S. After commission and rebates, I collected another $20, to make $116 on about 30 minutes of work at the close.

High Frequency Trading: Can Any Stock Replace Citigroup?

I HFT trade stocks such as C (sad its going to go away) with a small firm who does about 20million shares on C and BAC on a good day. No computer trading involved, all human. A computer cant react to the conflicting signals the different routes have. Only a human can feel the routes and fills.

    explain 'scalping' to a newbie

There are two types of scalping. 1. Directional scalping. This is when you trade a highly volatile instrument like crude oil (CL) and you try to profit say 5 cents a trade. Your average time in the market trading like this can be anywhere from 1-200 seconds usually, as oil can move 5 cents in...
