Eric is a decent guy I know him from my NYMEX days. Lets not forget that positioning is huge in those markets and guys will throw down for some one taking there spot. Eric is stands in a killer spot but swings size. That being said Eric would be broke if it was 100% screen just like Tomy...

    why prop and not futures?

I believe you are combining the definiton of prop shop and service provider/fcm into one when they are totaly seperate entities. I can give any fcm with remote capabilities my cash and trade it while paying standard fees and no split. This is reffered to as a customer service provider not a...

    why prop and not futures?

Any prop where you get 100% of profits is saddling you with some high commisions, desk fees and tech charges. It is my experience that the vast majority of prop training is the equivalent of throwing a child in a pool and seeing if they sink or swim, if the sink just toss in another kid.

    Chicago Area Prop Firms

Allot more than bond spreads took down LTCM and just because a large blow up occured doesnt mean it isnt a good trade. How about 2's or 5's v Euro's if you are worried about the FIT or NOB trade? If you give Mark a dime of your money you deserve what you get and I can assure you it wont be...

    Chicago Area Prop Firms

im not a bond trader but the larger places in chicago that hire newbies train to spread bonds for the most part. These are the places that dont require money down in my experience. I would trade oil calander spreads if I was just starting out but thats just me.

    Chicago Area Prop Firms

Dont pay anyone to train you that is just dumb. There are at least 5 large firms in Chicago who will train you how to spread. The split will be lousy but they will train you. Marquette Partners is a good place to start.

    Proprietary Trader - Market Maker?

options market makers are different than liquidity provider market makers in my opinion. options market makers make two sided markets off off percieved values based on greeks then lay off the risk with an underlying hedge. in theory you do this all day make some here , some there and then...

life after making mrkts on the floor

If it came like I was knocking anyone I most certainly am not. We all have to make a living and to each his own. My experience is that the guys from the floor who couldnt transition to the screen were either size guys who could bully the market or stood next to a friend. These types are...

life after making mrkts on the floor

Run like an antelope dude ;) The fact is that there is little need for the old trader with new tech. superioir risk tools and a plethora of kiddies who will do it for peanuts and 25% /75% splits. Plus the kiddies can all rpogram and dont need a huge base to pay the bills and the ex wife!
