Since we're all speculating, I guess I'll throw this out there........ Universal strategies came of age before the era of walk forward optimization. If a strategy could turn a profit on many different markets, it was considered robust. Perhaps that has changed with the widely available...

You're in need of an exit strategy. Once you have that, money management tells you how much money to put on each bet.

I don't have any difficulty limiting risk to 2% per position while keeping slippage / comms to a tiny fraction of expected R. But this thread isn't about how impossible trading is, it's about Portfolio Maestro and how it appears to allow multiple strategies to be backtested / WFOptimized...

So you either failed to make money at trend following or failed to make money when applying common indicators to your non trend following methods. Judging from your posts, you don't read very many of mine. If you did, you would realize I am focused on using automated trend following methods...

Markets with a good repeating signal. Typically they are not traded by computerized day traders and have a very tight looking price series. Example: F An example of the reverse would be WAVX. :D

Can't say I agree with this, although we may be looking at different markets and time frames. There are certain markets which are very, very easy to find profits with simple, old fashioned systems. And then there are crowded intraday futures markets. I can't tell if you are more concerned...

I really agree with this. My own personal belief is that the 5% who get paid by the market are providing it with a valuable service - thereby increasing its overall efficiency and functionality to the hedgers who use it for reasons other than trading profits.

This rule is preached in tech analysis textbooks and by Prechter alike..... What does it mean? It sure didn't help during the glorious bull market, immediately after the flash crash, when Prechter, Zerohedge, and all bears were harping on it..... :confused:
