    Could it be this easy?

@virtusa It sounds like my Step #1 is to truly learn how to backtest properly. Which it sounds like means manually going back through the chart for let's just say 10 years. I need to find out if my platform and/or computer will even support that much tick data. For some reason, I could...

    Could it be this easy?

Have you been able to find systems that work? Or have you came to the conclusion that algo trading is not the way to go.

I wonder if it's possible to account for all those errors and get the real results.

    Could it be this easy?

You seem knowledgeable and experienced... Have you ever personally back tested and decided to run an algorithm that has generated consistent profit? Have you considered it and then decided against it?

    ETs Ultimate Trading Strategy

If you're so sure of a bull market, why not just buy ES futures with no other strategy than to buy and hold?

    Could it be this easy?

I recently ran a backtest on NinjaTrader on 1minute charts over the past 12 months. I'm not even going to go into the details of the script because it was one of the preloaded MA scripts that comes included as a sample. The results were a profit of $30,950 on 1 ES contract ($13,000...

    How do you lose trades?

I've had plenty of times where I was up big, only to hold on looking for more... And it turns around for a loss. I'm sure you have to. My decision to start scalping grew from a realization that I should lock in profits as soon as I have them.

    How do you lose trades?

With platforms that let you day trade ES with just $500/contract, the amount of money you could make/lose is unbelievable. For example, when I used Schwab ($14300 margin requirement), I made $2500 in less than a minute by following the market immediately after a FOMC speech. With the $500...

    ETs Ultimate Trading Strategy

Yes. And remember that there's always a force pushing markets up and that is people's wishful thinking and their lack of other places to put money. Who really wants to invest in bonds unless there's no option?

    How do you lose trades?

Between the last week of August through mid-December, I profited $28,000 eyeballing ES trades. It would have been much more, but I took a $31,000 loss during that time before I realized the market wasn't going to go back down to it's 3550 lows in October. This is trading between 1-6 contracts.

    ETs Ultimate Trading Strategy

If you're trading, it shouldn't matter to you if the market is going up or down. You can make just as much shorting a bear market as you can buying a bull market.

    ETs Ultimate Trading Strategy

I'm currently trying to work out a reasonable strategy to start with. I have quite a bit of money to lose and I'm currently trying to change careers into trading. Since August of this year, I have done very well trading ES futures just kind of "winging it" and paying close attention to major...

    How do you lose trades?

What's your personal exit strategy upon losing? Do you always stick to your original stop loss? Do you try to Martingale a few times before conceding defeat? A problem I'm having coming up with a strategy is that my SL will get hit if I do the R:R anywhere close to 1:1 or even 2:1. Especially...
