    PHLX 2-minute tactics

Aahhh, *that's* the part I'd missed in your previous post. In the same vein, what about this? Simultaneously submit bids at 1 increment away, 2 away, 3 away, and cancel all of them immediately. Better yet, forget about cancels entirely: submit 1, modify away, await confirm, modify...

Will retail brokers try using DMCA to suppress criticism on the net?

Yes, that site has a lot of interesting examples of people who've received C&D notices. But their first paragraph really says it all: "Chilling Effects Clearinghouse, a joint project of the Electronic Frontier Foundation and Harvard, Stanford, Berkeley law school clinics. . . . Have you...

Will retail brokers try using DMCA to suppress criticism on the net?

I know it's a long and sometimes tedious article, but give it another look. It does in fact talk a lot about how companies are using trademark/copyright claims as an *excuse* to force critics to remove their uncomplimentary material from websites.

    limit to max spread?

There are at CBOE: 25 cents up to $2, 40 cents up to $5, 50 cents up to $10, etc. (I don't remember the rest). BUT -- there are lots of rules for transient exceptions based on market activity, and hundreds of long-term exemptions for particular underlyings.

    Are Options FIFO?

Excellent question. "Know your target profit before you trade" is a venerable trading axiom. But for years, I've also made it a practice to extend this axiom, to immediately placing the closing order, GTC, as soon as the opening order is filled -- on the assumption that options are FIFO...

Will retail brokers try using DMCA to suppress criticism on the net?

http://news.com.com/2100-1023-963122.html : "Many companies and organizations are trying to shoehorn their copyright or trademark rights into DMCA claims, in the hope of persuading ISPs and site owners to take down pages which are critical." tick . . . tick . . . tick . . .

options brokers with no PDT day-trading restrictions

OK, now I'd like to try to coax this thread back on-track.:) Yes, most of us believe PDT doesn't apply to equities options. Yes, even more of us feel that it shouldn't apply. But all of us now know of at least one broker which is applying the PDT rules to equities options. So, what...

Companies Start Using DMCA To Suppress Criticism On The Net

" . . . sent a letter . . . persuading the site to pull down pages that were critical . . . . . . many companies and organizations are trying to shoehorn their trademark or copyright claims into DMCA claims in the hopes of persuading ISPs to take down . . ."...

Electronic Trading in the Coming Weeks

The crux of the originating post (and referenced link) is that brokers' software (client-side and server-side) will be in a state of flux for a while (witness the latest postponement). OTOH, my comment was that brokers have a spotty record of giving customers advance notice of changes. IB is...

    PHLX 2-minute tactics

I know I'm going to smack myself for asking this, but I'm just not getting it: why is this technique better than just bidding farther away on the original order (and then cancelling)?

    Option Mystery

Sounds plausible. It's not rare for deeply ITM options (especially index) to trade at discount, especially near exp. So one metric would be to use the discounted's OI. Not difficult to calc how much of a discount is needed (to present an arb opportunity); there's probably an example in...

Electronic Trading in the Coming Weeks

To prepare for trading SSFs, "there will be a cluster of changes to the industry's trading platforms in a concentrated period of time . . . This cluster of changes represents risk, as some systems have already experienced problems with the upgrades, and such problems should intensify in the...

CalTrader, Just in case my comparison was ambiguous: the "unclosable spread" is at IB. My customer-service experience at O-X has been completely unblemished.

You need to stop speed-reading. I imply nothing. The entire quoted and italicized text is reproduced verbatim from your boards, where IB has seen fit to allow it to remain visible to the public continuously since June. Ask Dave Battan, IB General Counsel; he'll set you straight (and perhaps...

    Prop futures trading

For quoting what's posted on your own boards? I think not. "you're reluctant to switch firms" It's called "circumspection" and "reserving judgment". "you want one on one personal service" Errmmm . . . let's see: one customer notifies one help-desk rep of a problem. Yep, you're right...

    Prop futures trading

Chad, Good thinking. It's just plain silly to draw conclusions based on a single acct opened only four months ago. I'm exceedingly protective of my assets, hedge my institutional risk (and network congestion risk) by maintaining multiple accounts, and would never consider funding a new acct...

    Prop futures trading

Given the wealth and variety of IB<==>customer communications on these boards, I'm puzzled by the sudden need for confidentiality in this particular case. "you are a client and thus i'm interested in what you have to say." What a novel manner of demonstrating it. In any case, all the...
