I can sell into the bid about 1% of the time I find... THe only time I can is in a scenario like this...
if 10.00 is the offer and I can currently short there and the offer pulls and the bid moves to 10.00 (with no trade taking place) then I can short into the bid at 10.00$...
I think this...
That's all correct but you are missing something. Mk was trading an AMEX stock through ARCA which pays 2$/1000 rebate for adding liquidity... (same fee structure on ARCA for AMEX and Nasdaq)

yeah I usually have my default set to 1000 shares so I can hit the bid/offer and get filled and I'll trade whatever amount i feel like when I'm adding liquidity (posting bids and offers...)

my story of the morning, got long at 30.04 on PARL as it got unhalted after trading only had 100 shares, made 1.56$/share... could made another buck or 2 if I held on for another 10 seconds.... Did anyone see how big the openning print was?????
mnx
i lost 6g's yesterday. the moral of the story???? don't play merger arbitrage and expect to make profits before the EOD.
i'm sure you can guess what stock(s) i was playing but in case you weren't watching the news I'll tell you I got long on PHS at 79.00 after the halt.
lesson learnt.

i've always wondered about this too. actually i was talking about this same subject thios morning. While I don't know the official rules, I think it's total BS that you should have to pay exchange fees more than once...
