NYSE does trhis all the time due to autoex trades going in front of you... I cancel and resubmit all the time to autoex shares as they pop up... (rather than someone else getting them and then having the stock move through the price level....) mnx

there's a pretty good example in your post. basically it works like a normal limit order but it routes out to other venues if they lock or cross your order *AFTER* it has been placed. hope that helps. mnx

was it by chance an NSDQ quote? NSDQ was corssing the market everywhere on NYSE this morning as they were having problems... mnx

I believe that is the case from what I understand about the NYSE and how executions are routed but in practice when I sent limit orders at the same price the specialist will just keep them until I get a fill from someone else on the NYSE or the original quote is gone... mnx
