Why I don't buy the 4.5% Unemployment Rate

They opened a new Walmart near here last year and got 25,000 applications for the 350 jobs. The pay was around $10/hr. Luckily unemployment is low. Just imagine if it was high. So many people trying to LIVE on $7.00 an hour. It just isn't possible unless you have free rent.

Why I don't buy the 4.5% Unemployment Rate

Ifr you want "a job", Wendy's and McD's have plenty available. If you are expecting to make over $25,000 a year, finding "a job" isn't going to be so easy. White collar jobs its the same, but on a different scale. Trying to get a job that pays what they did pre 9/11 is pretty much...

Why a stock is locked? No openning trades can be placed?

I'd *DEMAND* an explanation *NOW* if it was my money and my account. That's total bullcrap if you ask me. Is it *YOUR* account that has a problem, I'd ask? Then *FIX* it *NOW* would be my reply if they said yes, and if they said they couldn't, I'd say let me speak to your manager!!! On...

Why a stock is locked? No openning trades can be placed?

Its your money. If it gets bought out, you'll probably do real well if you bought low, otherwise, I'd guess it will take a similar effort to sell it. So did your broker say why they weren't accepting buy orders? The only cases I've seen of that before were ones where the listing was being...

Hedge Funds and the U.S. Financial Markets.

When Amaranth went, it hurt all the stocks in all the sectors they were long. I don't think we've seen all the effects of the Bear Stearns funds, yet. A month from now we'll still be hearing about funds and companies that took large losses as result of loan value writedowns. They were...

It all works just fine as long as the loans aren't bad loans. Liar Loans, I wonder why they call them that? A second question is why they exist at all?

    Yen Gains

Yen gaining again today. If my guess is correct that will mean more carry trades unwind, forcing sale of bonds/equities to repay borrowed yen.

Why a stock is locked? No openning trades can be placed?

Its an insurance co. and the CFO left a few days ago. The reason they are looking to sell themselves is because if they lose the A- rating, then they won't be able to sell insurance. Shares appear to be undervalued vs published numbers. If there was news pending, there would be a trading...

    Trading Large Number of Shares

Jack, What do DU and FRV mean on your table? So, you are saying you watch for high volume the first 1/2 hr. Ok, given the volume, how do you know what you should be willing to pay? Many times that big volume start moves the price 4 or 5%, where buying usually ends up being foolish...

If anyone is still expecting average Joes to come out of the woodwork and jump into the market, I think they are wrong. Average folk these days are buried in debt, just trying to feed the SUV, buy food, pay taxes, and make the mortgage payments. They are saving, via 401k and IRA accounts...

They had a credit bubble in the 1920's, too. Nobody thought that housing prices would crash, and nobody thought the stock market would crash. Nobody thought the dollar would get devalued by 69%, either, but that was the result n 1934.

    Trading Large Number of Shares

He might do enough business with them. Can't hurt to ask. I use that to buy and sell sometimes. The penny a share is usually worth it as compared to spending days sitting there punching in small trades. If the commission is $2,000 for 200k shares, and you saved $10,000 in slippage by...

    Trading Large Number of Shares

How many days do you take to go long or exit? The bigger the qty vs daily volume, the more critical it is to sell into strength, and use multiple day entry and exits. Obviously, if you are taking multiple days to get in or out, its something you plan to hold for a while. I agree with that...

    Trading Large Number of Shares

Don't try to hold more than 1 day's volume or if the trade goes against you, you wil get creamed on slippage trying to exit, even over a number of days.

    August Gold (GCQ7)

Another hammer on GLD. I was surprised to see the dollar down and gold up on friday with the Philly Fed index so strong. If stock market falters or hedge fund collapses spread, will it affect market causing GLD sales to dump gold on spot market like back in Feb?
