If a small country had a budget deficit of 50%, will their currency devalue soon?

Ummmmm, I think that was the POINT of this thread... America's federal government *IS* spending 50% more they take in from taxes. I wonder how many Americans realize that? Starting in 2010 as boomers try to retire its going to get MUCH worse, too unless there are huge spending cuts or...

    Dollar Devaluation

I think they can't raise rates to save the dollar because that would cause a market crash, deflation and depression. If they try to hold rates in an effort to stabilize the dollar, the economy will weaken into a recession by January, even if no other calamity hits in the meantime. So that...

Do you know if paper dollars burn fine?

Not useful for butt wiping, either. "Not worth a Continental"? Try "Not worth a dollar"

    Bernanke and Trade Defecit

We have a 60,000 page tax system designed to tax (which is the same as discourage) work, and reward both debt and outsourcing. It worked. If we are to avoid a total collapse, we need to produce and sell to the world at least as much as we consume.

If a small country had a budget deficit of 50%, will their currency devalue soon?

Supporting the troops is different than supporting the liars, fools, and thieves that sent them there.

If a small country had a budget deficit of 50%, will their currency devalue soon?

What if they repeat over and over that their currency and economy are "strong"?

    Americans living beyond their means

It only can continue if they sell assets or borrow. Eventually they run out of assets to sell and credit.

Consumers are spending more despite economic weakness?

Gotta eat whatever is on sale, that's all. The spending increase is inflation or less, IMO, being financed with charge cards because wages are below real inflation.

Fed Rate Cut on Monday / Tuesday ?

I really don't see any happy ending possible for the dollar or the nation. Gold will still be gold, no matter what.

Fed Rate Cut on Monday / Tuesday ?

LOL, they WANT a crash, huh? Might as well have sent an engraved invitation. Bears win. Wish I was short.

Fed Rate Cut on Monday / Tuesday ?

To be honest I haven't had any debt at all in the past 15 yrs, so I might not know how current terms are derived, but from back in my CFO days when rates were 21%, I recall that when the Fed raised rates, the Prime Rate went up, and since I see them advertising things like "prime equity loans"...

Fed Rate Cut on Monday / Tuesday ?

I didn't say that's what *I* want. I just said that's what I think they will do and why. BTW, I think they try to wait till 9/18 to cut, so they don't appear desperate. I think if they don't cut soon they will have a very long and nasty recession or depression instead of only a recession...

the jobs numbers were big surprise

I noticed that they also added another 11,000 financials jobs last month, too in the birth/death adjustment. thats now over 30,000 totally false jobs added via the adjustment. if they haven't noticed, manufacturing, construction and finance sectors are laying off people, and smaller...

Fed Rate Cut on Monday / Tuesday ?

The rate is used to determine the reset rates on many of the ARM loans that will be crucifying foolish homebuyers, thus it must be cut to help reduce the deflationary effects of the housing crash.

    Gold gold gold!

To dump gold would be the same as buying dollars. TIC numbers say that the central banks are now dumping dollars the past couple months. Which ones? Wait till November to see.

    buying a new house

If you can wait till 2009 or 2010 I think you'll save 20%. Mortgage resets don't peak till Feb/Mar of 2008, so those people's homes won't be on the auction block till fall of 2008 or after. If my guess is correct, winter of 2008/2009 will be desperate times.

I think you are a fool. They can always print you some more dollars, but they can't print you any gold or oil.

    Mini black Friday

No offense, but the recession is now REAL, and that's not good for business. Just imagine if they hadn't added 122,000 jobs to the reported numbers. They added 15,000 construction and 4,000 manufacturing, and 11,000 Financial jobs. Talk about silly! That's a number misreported by at...
