    Short Housing

Well this is the problem. My equity has skyrocketed in the past 3 years. But how do you know when the top really is? If I cash out now, and rent, and the market tops out say in another 3 years, and then drops to todays levels, then I am not better off at all. I will have spent years not...

    Short Housing

I have been thinking about selling. Seems like it always best to sell into up movement. But if I sold my house tomorrow, what is the next move? Rent and pay too much and wait for a dip in the RE market while getting no benefit of being an owner? And what if the market doesn't turn? Then what...

Going to hell in a hand basket

This sounds familiar. The newspaper and magazine headlines are about how bad the market is. Last night Nightline was about it. I started flipping through the channels, and couldn't get away from the market news. I didn't see Letterman or Leno's monologue, but I would guess this has been a...

    Maria Bartiromo----looking for a bottom

Yeah, and she looks great as a blonde. I didn't realize it was her when I saw her, but at the end of the news, she said her name. I was thinking the whole time how great she looked, but had no idea it was Amanda. I am partial to blondes though. But it REALLY works for her!! :)

She was.....and still is. She is on one of the network affiliates in NYC doing the news. Blonde last time I saw her.

OK, but I see no connection with selling naked puts with what I am talking about. But thanks for your input. RS

OK, that makes more sense...but why just intraday? What difference would holding time make if you could put on a "riskless" transaction? Anyway, will call during non market hours. Thanks. RS

Ok, use a "credit" butterfly instead. What I meant was that there is no risk that really requires margin (like in a customer account) beyond the initial cost (if any...possible credit if you are lucky enough to find one). That I didn't know....what is the reason? Thanks. RS

I guess...I always thought of "haircut" as what the exchange considered to be the real time risk on a given position. I doubt this....riskless is riskless. Don?

I guess super-ego was right. I have a tiny little brain. I am not clear on this. Are you saying if I am long $X of MSFT and short =$ of INTC, I am hedged? And if so, how does it affect my buying power? Or does it? Thanks, RS

    "program trading" at home

Don, Thanks for the response. I am impressed you seem to look at every thread..I guess not much gets past you:) I understand "doubtful as a customer"...what I meant was as a firm or prop trader, can I get what you call "cross margin" (a term I am not familiar with)? Or in terms I do...

I meant more buying power than one would fund a personal account with (at least the people I know....pikers like myself:) )

    "program trading" at home

I have found it difficult to trade stocks for a while. If I did not have a lot of buying power as a firm trader, I would not have made enough money for the past year to live on. I don't know how you guys do it. RS

    "program trading" at home

I guess I should re-state my question... Let's say for example I put on a trade that in a customer account would require 30K buying power. If this trade will yield net just $100, but it is a riskless, or close to a riskless trade, is there a way to get "haircut" the risk a rather than be...

Thanks for your response. Do you scalp the minis? Do you only trade them, or are you trading other instruments as well?

    "program trading" at home

Has anyone here attempted to trade derivatives against a basket of stocks (any strategy) on the kind of scale that can be done as a prop trader or customer (ie: small scale)? I have never traded the e-minis, but they seem to get talked up quite a bit on ET. I was wondering if anyone has tried...
