    IB Price Feed?

This is a sequential process. Once the order has entered the auction process it can no longer be cancelled. The specialist or clerk will never even get to see your cancellation attempt. Delays at this stage are usually due to the specialist aggregating individual orders price improving some of...

    Trading FROM offshore

That's only true if the country of residence has a tax treaty with the US that provides for full exemption. Most treaties declare full exemption only for capital gains and impose partial exemptions on dividend and interest income. If there's no tax treaty all income derived from capital gains...

    IB Price Feed?

Using BEST on listed stocks can be a very bad idea, for details see the discussion on the following thread http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4126&perpage=6&pagenumber=3 Using the NYSE route your orders will go straight to SuperDOT which is the fastest way to the...

    IB Price Feed?

A cancel attempt will be successful if it arrives at the post in time before the specialist has hit the fill key for your order (or a larger block that includes your order). He does not have the option of reconsidering after the fact. A single specialist typically trades around a dozen stocks...

    IB Price Feed?

Quite to the contrary, IB has taken away the option to trade with any of the regional exchanges and Nasdaq Intermarket dealers when they decided to cripple ARCA functionality. Dave

IB TWS APIs - Great until IB crippled them

I don't subscribe to any of the conspiracy theories brought up by some on this thread as an explanation, and I don't think that the peculiarities of IB's BEST routing for options have anything to do with payment for order flow either. Not sending orders to exchanges that have autoex switched...

IB TWS APIs - Great until IB crippled them

The requirement to manually confirm API generated options orders are obviously due to exchange rules and we can't blame IB for taking the necessary steps to comply. The restrictions put on the free choice of order route are a totally different story, though. Dave P.S. The confirmation...

IB TWS APIs - Great until IB crippled them

I wish I could share your faith in IB's management. But unfortunately I don't have quite as short a memory as you seem to have. Just last spring IB decided to reduce the liquidity pools that their customers should have access to. And ever since it's no longer possible to trade with any of the...

IB TWS APIs - Great until IB crippled them

mskl has already made the case concerning deficiencies of BEST routing with options. Let me give you some examples with stocks. Listed stocks BEST can have disastrous results when the specialist opens up the spread to make a negotiated market and execute around the midpoint of the spread...

IB TWS APIs - Great until IB crippled them

But there's no rules against sending automated stock orders to specific ECNs or eschanges.

    Island Short Sales

Anyone hitting your short sale order chasing down the market will receive full price improvement (i.e. 20.00) regardless of what L2 shows at the time. The market changing to a downtick before you are filled does not change anything about how ISLD handles your order. Unlike other ECNs ISLD does...

    Even lots (100's) or not?

No longer with IB. Last spring they decided it wasn't good for their customers to use ARCA for marketable listed stock orders.

IB TWS APIs - Great until IB crippled them

I can't believe that IB has introduced APIs to their TWS software only to cripple the interfaces just a few weeks later in a way that makes them unusable for any kinds of advanced applications. Why would anybody want to use an API which requires that every single options order it generates...

    IB Improvements (Part 2)

I can see your point in the case of options that are so illiquid or close to expiration that slippage in terms of spread exceeds the remaining intrinsic value. Now this is irrational unless the point raised above applies. I also don't see how this would make a difference in terms of margin...

    IB Improvements (Part 2)

Options exercise always takes place overnight. ITM options are excercised automatically by the OCC on expiration and the only time where early exercise ever is a rational decision is ahead of the underlying going ex-dividend. I think there's a lot of areas where development energy could be put...

    IB ActiveX

You're probably reusing old transaction IDs. TWS enforces the use of unique and ascending ID values even across sessions. To do this on every exit TWS stores the last used ID value in the DdeId= line in the user.ini file.

    IB ActiveX

That quote feed performance would suffer in an OCX implementation compared to DDE is something that was clear even before they released the OCX. COM adds lots of additional abstraction layers compared to DDE which is actually a very efficient window message based protocol. There is absolutely no...

IB's order handling dangerously screwed up since last Thursday

Since last Thursday IB's order handling of stocks seems to be majorly screwed up when it comes to handling partially executed orders. Is anyone else seeing this? - If the limit price of a partially executed order is changed the system automatically decreases the size of that order on...

    IB questions

Based on def's post above the necessary automatic splitting of orders has been implemented since Monday. However, it seems that hey have forgotten about the case where there's a resting sell order when the position in the stock changes. In that case the sell order is still cancelled instead of...

    IB questions

I've still had non-marketable limit sell orders automatically cancelled yesterday when either a smaller sized long position was established or after a partial sale of an equally sized long position. Maybe this part of the issue was forgotten about when they implemented the splitting. Dave
