    Why Direct Access??

$5. market and $10. limit. for stocks. Good margin rates. Rated lowest overall costs by Gomez. But not direct access.

    Why Direct Access??

As I swing trade, I have not felt the need to move from my current broker, Brown, to a direct access firm. But recently I've been unhappy with a few fills and delays. Many of the stocks I enter move quickly when they signal and a delay can often hurt my entry. For anyone who trades with a...

    options-intelligence

Yes, that was it. The Index Adjustment System. I notice that they are still selling their crap on the web, long after I reported them to the FTC. So much for our taxes at work.

    options-intelligence

First clue of danger - no contact information such as an address or phone number. Second clue - they apparently do not respond to e-mails, as I was also curious about their claims. Third clue - payment is handled by a third party. So no trace to the site owners. Fourth clue - web site was...

    DCN just broke out

You are correct, ElCubano. I did not read the date, but just glanced at the chart. Gary_McLaughlin is invited to post more picks that are going to gap up the NEXT morning.

    DCN just broke out

Generally not a good idea to go long on an upside gap in a flat market environment, which this is after yesterday's rally. A dangerous trade. Statistically, if you are going to make any trade you are better off fading the gap.

Target Price.. to change or not to?

There is absolutely no way to know whether a gap up will continue strength or reverse on you. It is the ultimate moment of fear versus greed. As was said, if you want to take your chances, best to put a physical or mental stop below the opening price, and be prepared to pull it if price...

    My experience with wireless data

T-Mobile has a long disclaimer on their web site regarding security at hot spots. Bottom line is, there isn't any, and they caution against sharing any secure data. Of course many sites, such as brokers, use encription for sending passcodes, etc. The tech folks at my broker, BrownCo., assure...

    My experience with wireless data

But of course the problem is that the hot spots are all handled by different vendors. It is really a primitive arrangment at this point. And I hope you are right, but I'm going to bet that for someone to put together a truly usable system on a national basis is going to take longer than a year...

    My experience with wireless data

Possibly just barely. But I wouldn't want to be relying on the stability or speed for any important decisions. But with ideal conditions depending on your location, you may get by. The nice thing about T-Mobile is that they will permit a two week trial, and reportedly their speeds are...

    Sox-index/Compx????

I watch the SPY primarily to help determine the best time to sell. I swing trade stocks and my entries are purely mechanical without regard for the overall market. But selling decisions can sometimes beneift by watching a 5 min chart on SPY. For example, if I see a particularly strong move...

    My experience with wireless data

A few days ago I made the leap to cellular wireless data, hoping to live the dream many of us have of trading anywhere, anytime. I'm unhappy to report that it is not yet ready for prime time, at least by my experience. I contracted with T-Mobile for a wireless PC card for my laptop...

    Licensing Required??

Would appreciate any information on license(s) required to trade for others, either with authorization to trade their account, or to run a small fund with deposits from others. Thanks.

    How to IMPROVE EliteTrader!

Good thoughts, but consider that the folks who run this site are in the business to make a profit...as are we all. They do that by selling eyeballs to advertisers. Anything that cuts down the number of users/posters will detract from the site's value to advertisers. So, you'll need to just...

    trading your own style ...

I'm gonna disagree with you here. I think it is very important for someone to feel comfortable, because from that comes confidence. If you are not comfortable with your trading decisions, you are not going to be a confident trader, and you'll never do more than scrape by.

    trading your own style ...

For me, about 100K and three years, off and on. But I was stupid and got involved in some complicated options strategies at a bad time in the market. But from that came some extremely valuable lessons that have served me very well. I think you will find that many traders who have survived...

    trading your own style ...

Gekko is right. You must have the EXPERIENCE of different trading styles and timeframes in order to make your own decision. Otherwise, someone's advice is going to be meanlingless to you, and you'll always be questioning whether or not you should be following a different path. That's probably...

    Exiting Positions

My system is based on this strategy, and over the past three years I've experimented with various stops and limits. I suggest that you try selling at the close of the day that price hits 4%, and give yourself a much broader stop. Stocks in pullbacks need room to move, and a stop that is too...

What would you do if 25 yrs old?

To someone who was 25, I would say: Right now, your 50's looks a long way off. But it will happen MUCH faster than you can image. So close your eyes, project yourself ahead to that time, and think what you can do now to help that 50 year old in the future when your options, energy and time...
