Best way to make concentraded bets on S&P500?

I trade this kind of trend following strategy on one of my accounts using the SPY. Should work the same with BGU. But I don't know if the leverage in this ETF has any drawback for your position in the long run. In 2008 I merely had 5 entries, all of which were short positions, and have been...

Has anyone ever gone through this?

Go back to your job and trade a size your are comfortable with. Start small, grow big, even if it takes you years. In the end you are better off than starting big. Appreciate the power of monthly compound interest instead of trying to earn several thousands a day and live in fear. What is being...

    NQ: Follow the trend.

Long? Almost 100 posts into this thread and you are going nowhere. You should seriously revise your trend following strategy.

    NQ: Follow the trend.

Quite true. For the very long term trends, the 150 SMA is accurate, as well. It is basically the weekly 30 SMA, converted to the daily time frame (30 x 5 weekdays). Attached are all discussed moving averages to give an impression.

    NQ: Follow the trend.

Out of curiosity I took your 30 SMA and applied it to several time frames of the QQQQ. What struck me was its accuracy in the daily chart. If you are looking to join the long-term trends, as you say, this might be interesting for this particular index. You exploit the monster moves spanning...

    NQ: Follow the trend.

Can you post a chart from time to time that shows your reversal entries? It would be very helpful to visualize it and see if your strategy has room for improvement.

Not gonna take any more of my money

Which simulator does that? Name us some. IB's Paper Trader for instance is very realistic in terms of trade executions. Using one is still better than gambling your money away because it tells you quickly what works or not. Obviously, scalping is not the approach you are looking for if you...

Face it! 95% of you wont make it, so go get a job!

Fatally wrong. Most traders started with a modest account and gathered their experience while building upon it. And we continue to pursue strict risk management. If you cannot bear the risks we take, simply trade smaller sizes.

    64-bit vs 32-bit

As far as I know, 32bit systems only support up to 3 GB of memory. If you have more built in you should go with 64bit. This is information I got while consulting tech support.

    Most popular trading instruments

How do you define popularity? Traded volume? In this case it's currencies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_exchange_market "The FX market is the largest and most liquid financial market in the world, and includes trading between large banks, central banks, currency speculators...

How will AHG do in the years when the market recovers (with low volatility)

How about extending the time frame and hold multiple days until the uptrend is no longer intact? Worked very well. It was slower, that's all.

What To Do With Days Like Today

There is a trade-off. Either you focus on trends and patiently stay in for the bigger buck or you scalp the day in and out for the quick profit. I can imagine that you are not the latter individual, so perhaps figure a way to develop some protective measures such as taking partial profits along...

    Challenge to Dan Zanger's results

I challenge Dan Zanger with Takashi Kotegawa (B.N.F.): He has increased his own fund from 1.6 million yen ($13,600) to 18 billion yen ($153 million) in about 8 years. http://www.japanprobe.com/?p=4644
