Any option sellers, here on Elitetrader?

I started a thread about the following strategy sometime ago: short puts on a number of stocks on the S&P, determine the % of the S&P these stocks comprise and then buy a corresponding # of puts on the S&P or OEX to cover a drop in the stocks you shorted. I had read about this strategy and the...

Any option sellers, here on Elitetrader?

"Another huge bugaboo - the biggest IMHO - is the fear of missing out. That's the one that'll kill you. " You got that one right. I don't think twice about the loses I 've had, but still piss and moan about big moves I missed on stocks /etf's I was trading.

Any option sellers, here on Elitetrader?

The biggest mistake I used to make was thinking that if I wasn't actively trading daily, I wasn't working. I made alot of bad trades because I thought I had to figure out where my favorite stocks and ETF's were headed that day and trade them.

Any option sellers, here on Elitetrader?

Well I used to sell both puts and calls. For the most part I sold puts on stocks I thought might take off and I was kicking myself in the ass later for only making a couple hundred dollars on each short put when I could have made thousands on the stock or long calls. I sold calls on stocks I...

    Good short (Rubicon Technology) RBCN

I don't do overnight shorts , but have traded puts for a number of years. It's not a strategy that has been very good for me even when the market is sliding because of wild swings up often happening near option expiration before heading south again. I'm trading out of my IRA right now and...

Markets will correct 50% from today’s close

Well at 1282 on the S&P we are right about where we were on the last bounce that failed. If this holds awhile and moves up, I'm in. If not, back to puts on the OEX.

Who is a professional daytrader in this forum?

I must have missed some big changes in patterned day trading regulations or this boy is clueless. When I started 6 years ago there was a minimum $25,000 cash or equity requirement to trade more than 3 day trades in a 5 day period. I think it would be very hard to be a successful "day trader" on...

Anybody try to short financials today?

If you are having trouble shorting the financials, say BOA, is there a reason you don't set up a synthetic short by selling calls and buying puts ? Or are these just quick in and out shorts to scalp a dollar or 2 per share?

    "Always be fading"?

One problem with systems is that for them to work you are usually suppose to take the trade when the system says to. I think many pick and choose when to trade. So even if you came up with a system with a 75% success rate if followed, once you start limiting the number of trades you initiate...

    "Always be fading"?

    Here is when to fade a gap . Osip closes at $38.14 then opens the next day at $84.60. Runs up to $98 then closes at $91. Can't hold the next day and evantually slides back to the $30's. 29-Apr-04 75.41 78.10 72.86 73.83 10,223,800 73.83 28-Apr-04 81.46 81.54 74.05 76.55 17,316,800 76.55...

Puts On The Rampage - Bears Are Out In Force

Well I know I decided to let my August puts on the OEX and calls on the Vix run yesterday instead of taking a quick 100% profit and then sold them early today for very little profit. This chop makes it hard to make $ on options trying to play a trend. Of course I'll be right back in if this turns.

    Option pricing question

I've been buying shares on a stock that is trading around $2.50-$3 and selling the Jan 10 $2.50 calls for 50% of the price of the stock. That seems like a good return if the company stays solvent. But from my experience getting 50% of the stock price for an ATM leap 18 months out seems unusual...

    can options trades be broken?

Here's a funny bust story. I was trading options on Taser some years ago and went long some puts. Got a bad feeling so sold them at the bid using Smart with IB without noticing the ordere was filled with the crooks at Amex. Then decided I was being a yoosie and bought them back. Should have...

    "Always be fading"?

I only know of 2 systems that have historically proven to work , although there are probably others. The 1st is fading the gap. There have been a number of papers published showing that if a stock gaps a certain percent at the open and you go against the gap, the percentage is high that within...

    Conservative Options Strategy

I've sold all my energy stocks and only have RIG and NOV left and won't be going long energy until I see a breakthrough or big pullback. But just for info, I'd like to see what date you bought the COP spreads and what you paid for the long call and received for the short call. I had been...

Why don't you post the specifics on your COP trade. I trade COP regularly and would like to see how that is working.

    Conservative Options Strategy

Kind of an off subject comment here but, awhile ago I looked at most of the vertical spreads I had done over the last 5 years and realized that if I had taken the amount of money that was at risk in the spread and just spent that same amount on naked calls, I would have been much further ahead...

    The problem with calendar spreads

Well I am far from an expert in option pricing, but I can do simple math. Your quote says that you bought stock at $8.58 it dropped down to $8.02 so you bought more. It dropped down to $7.60 so you bought more stock to" lock in your profits". Are you talking about locking in your profits on...

    The problem with calendar spreads

"If the stock XYZ for example decreases further to 7.60 you can buy an other 196 stock to re-hedge your position and thereby locking in profits." Either I am misreading this, or I am ignorant about hedging positions. As I read the post, you buy the 1000 shares of stock , then buy 25 puts as a...
