CNN calls breaking into someones house and trying to rob them a "prank"

Maybe that's why the conservative is still alive and the kid isn't. If the homeowner was a liberal, he wouldn't waved his hands and screeched like a banshee. The kid would've been spooked, and shot the homeowner instead... then escaped with the booty... Or even better, the liberal...

Does Linux in all its flavors really suck?

Yes, there is a learning curve. Running any version of *nix is like being mechanic who drives instead of just a driver - a driver who doesn't want to be bothered with turning on the headlights or changing the oil... I found VMWare readily renders a high performance system into a 386... You...

Cheap Starbucks Customers - Tall coffee in grande cup.

Last time I checked, a barrister is a synonym for lawyer.... In a perfect world after tort reform, I'd love to see an unneeded, unemployed lawyer resorting to working at Starbucks...

    Sustainable debt explosion?

More likely, reps and bureaucrats don't like budget surpluses because they didn't spend all the money available.... And if they had the money, but didn't spend it, then next year's budget allocation gets chopped down to this year's spending levels...

Great piece from Adam Corolla on global warming fruitcakes like futurecurrents.

Are these selected excerpts or one continuous brain dump? Because if its the latter, the book needs an editor... Otherwise, he's just grandpa on the soap box, orating to any captive audience pulled in via tractor beam... Of course, my brain is the same way - 1 thought leads to 50 related...

How High Will Johnny Manziel Go?

My opinion - the lower he goes, the bigger the chip on his shoulder, the greater the drive to succeed, the greater the odds of leading the team to and winning the Super Bowl... He just doesn't remind me of the other QBs drafted #1 who won the Super Bowl: Terry Bradshaw Joe Namath John...

    Donald Sterling is a Democrat

I disagree. I think he was referring to the media..... The US gov't prevented the media from snooping too deeply into Benghazi. OTOH, the media had complete, unfettered access to Sterling's entire personal and business lives...

    Donald Sterling is a Democrat

The US Gov't has a bunch of (effective) enforcers, and Sterling doesn't have any.... Plus, politicians hate notoriety, and Sterling actually wants it...

Assessment on property taxes incorrect - question...

Wow, how did you get him out there so fast? And without having to file an appeal or go before the appeal board. Amazing.... Is the refund going to be worth the effort?

Assessment on property taxes incorrect - question...

Sorry, I was confusing you with jem, who's in California... There are companies that (allegedly) work to secure lowered assessment values and thus lower prop taxes. Basically, they prepare what's necessary to file an appeal and request a reassessment - putting together comps of sales prices...

Assessment on property taxes incorrect - question...

Aren't you in California? If not, then ignore the rest... If so, assessed value is just sales price * 1.02^years owned. Base value = purchase price = assessed value. It has nothing to do with square footage, lot size, improvements, etc. Annual assessed values and the tax rate are...

    Working For Bill O'Reilly

I don't think they tell you. I'm probably wrong, but when I took it in the late 90s, I think they only sent me a "Congratulations, you've been accepted" letter. The test is just an IQ test. Whatever IQ test variation is taken, applicants have to score higher than the "top 2%"...

    Working For Bill O'Reilly

Well, I think the universe of high paying jobs/industries is larger than one thinks... legal medical technology marketing public relations entertainment financial lobbying government contracting c-level positions in the Fortune 2000 I imagine there are at least 1-20 million...

    Working For Bill O'Reilly

In the major cities/industries, this is true. Like NYC, Chicago, Boston, LA, or Silly Valley. My rate as a contractor jumped from $12/hr to $50/hr in 3 years as I progressed as a Unix SA back in 1995-1998...
