Element Trading remains in theft of traders funds, 18 months later!

    Darvas or IBD?

OTC = Over The Counter is correct. Basically, back then, the AMEX exchange was the OTC of its day - the ugly, red-headed stepchild compared to the NYSE.

    Darvas or IBD?

DA = District Attorney However, this is an error. The prosecutor in question was the New York Attorney General, who is the head lawyer for the State of New York.

    RM's occasional market calls...

That ADT call took its time to start moving... No, I'm not the big baller.... yet... My call for you: if and when FFIV finally drops below 69, it'll probably free-fall. It's slowly sinking right now, but it'll take another earnings miss in July or pre-earnings warning for the...

Element Trading remains in theft of traders funds, 18 months later!

My $1,500 is off, and so is your $12,000. Most jurisdictions hover around $5-6,000. Here's a link with a state-by-state breakdown. http://www.civiltree.com/library/smallclaims/small4.php Regarding the prosecutor's comment - if they committed fraud (which it seems likely based upon...

Element Trading remains in theft of traders funds, 18 months later!

The limits for small claims are much lower, like $1,500. They'll need to go to the big boys court, which means if they win *AND* get their money back, it'll most likely end up in the lawyer's bank account. So, the lesson here is - always steal from the poor, because after court costs and...

    Darvas or IBD?

I found it otherwise. I don't have my copy of either book handy, but I remember in Wall Street, on one page in the last 1/3rd of the book, the rules were explicitly laid out. But you can put together the whole picture reading the 2M book, too. His books are easy reads, so it's not too hard.

    Darvas or IBD?

Both are fundamentally similar. Darvas is a little more basic, but he does offer his "rules". The rules are explained in more detail in his "Wall Street - The Other Las Vegas" book. Darvas focuses on buying stocks breaking out of trading ranges to new All-Time Highs (or 52-week highs...

    Learning to Program

How do you know Google isn't the NSA? After all, the NSA's buried deep in the DOD, and few outsiders know anything about the full scope of their budget or operations except the JCOS, POTUS, and a very small # of Congress.... That stuff that Snowden's disclosing... It's probably a PR ploy...

    Crazy, stupid or valid idea?

Unless he intends to create a tool for resale to others... But it'll need to be a kitchen sink app, that somehow fixes/improves all the other trading platforms out there (if your intended market is retail)... Or he can go institutional, but he needs to find what niches aren't being served...

    Learning to Program

Just remember that there is nothing that you can think of doing that somebody else hasn't been done before. Blessedly, they posted their experiences, code, libraries, etc, on the Net for you to use, abuse, or improve upon. Hence, the projects I listed previously. You'll learn most of...

    Crazy, stupid or valid idea?

Getting 50 people to agree on anything in the real world is a tremendous challenge. Getting 50 nitpicking hair-splitters on ET agreeing to fund and spec out a community trading platform is asking for tremendous amount of pain. You might have more fun recruiting a midget to crawl up your...

    Learning to Program

Just do it ... Quit wasting time and waiting for someone to tell you what to do or hold your hand... There is no best language... There is no best operating system ... There is no best book on how to learn ... Just pick a language, pick and OS, and go with it... You can expand...

Deciding when to take profits (I let most of my winners turn into losers)

Maybe you need to take the derivative of the 60-bar EMA. This value will tell you if the MA is accelerating or decelerating. Determine some value of X where trends start, then enter trades when the value exceeds X on the high side and -X on the low side. That way, you jump on board...

    HFT Myths

Flip the question on its head... Why not promote HFT? Especially if you're a "tool" supplier. My gut feeling - the HFT is a mania, just the same as the dot.com boom, the California gold rush, etc. The ones who got really rich were the tool suppliers. In this case, the companies...

    on-CPU graphics vs. GPU card

The GPU has more processors and uses its own fast RAM. The GPU operations are relatively simple operations, and the RAM is to hold the data for pre & post computing. More system RAM is better to enable system, apps, and data to run from memory instead of swapping back and forth to disk...

    on-CPU graphics vs. GPU card

No matter what the marketing geeks say, on-CPU GPU processing performance will lag dedicated GPU processing. If you're seeking performance, your best bet is to get a Nvidia or ATI card. Beyond that, you need to ask yourself the following questions... Which app and machine will you be...

    Advice for a Beginner Programmer

Another thought has come to mind... A programming language is just a tool. While it is important to choose the "right" tool for the job, it is not the most important thing, especially with a large project like a trading system. Tools are easy to use and learn. Rather, a programmer...

    Advice for a Beginner Programmer

+1 I think this is the key post here! To me, it seems the OP is both a trading and programming novice. If that's true, then baby-steps are the key. OP, you can learn programming and build your program one block at a time. By tackling the smaller projects, ou'll quickly find out...
