    Discipline & Greed

Why get mad at him if one expresses some doubts about being able to make a living off of a negative expectation game unless, in your case, serendipity follows you around. And, the anecdotal evidence offered by you is not scientific evidence, and that makes all the difference in the world to...

    Discipline & Greed

You mean you don't keep a record of your bacc sessions like you would when trading? Where you say "not betting the first 10 rounds will give you an edge"....have you quantified that hypothesis? Do you lose your edge if you just sit through 9 rounds of not betting? Could you walk me through the...

    Discipline & Greed

Probability and negative expectation are how the house wins over the long term and you will expect to get ground out in Baca over the long time. What I would like to see is if you can cite a study(or show me one you've done) showing trends in baca and if it diverges from random walk. Havwe you...

Any drug to help make u a better trader?

There is no upside to taking any drug in any attemt to improve trading performance. Drugs generally impair trading and concentration abilities. Anecdotally speaking I've never known anyone on drugs since I started in 1978 that was a successful trader in the long run.

Buy low and sell high is the best advice one could give for this kind of question.

Do you consider money management an edge?

I think your 4455 posts in 16 months indicate that you really don't know what the hell you are talking about.....4455 posts gives new meaning to the word, Blowhard(but your name gives away what you really are full of), kind of like the Cliff Claven of ET.

World War 3 is it coming?

That;s true, war does not create wealth, in fact we're poorer because of it. War is an example of the Bastiat's broken window.

Any Day Trader Over the Age of 65?

Perhaps, but time in the pits certainly did help. I presume that you have spent considerable time in a pit to be able to make that broad statement without qualification or quantification. The main advantage of an exchange membership is the ability to trade the inside market, lower...

Any Day Trader Over the Age of 65?

At 53, I'm much sharper than I was at 21. My mind works much faster and I can calculate odds much quicker than I could before the age of 30. I also have a better understanding of risk than I did back then, and my style has changed since I got out of the pit. However, I owe a lot of it to my...

Any Day Trader Over the Age of 65?

I was never a retail investor and have been an exchange member since 1978 and speed was never an issue with me. Certain things have gotten faster, but the markets are still basically the same. Perhaps the fringe players have easier access to dump their money, but I'm not smart enough to find...

Any Day Trader Over the Age of 65?

When I first started trading professionally back in 1978, I used to look to the old guys, the guys in their 70's and 80's who still were in the grain pits. I showed them some respect, listened very carefully to them, and learned how to trade from guys that started in the pits in the...

Senior/Sucessful traders, what do you reccomend for a Newbie?

I would love to see a scientific study of the correlation of number of posts on ET and profitability. My hypothesis is that the more the posts, the lesser the profitability. I got into a minor flame war where someone was saying it should be easy for a day trader to make 20% a quarter, and I...

How much capital do you typically need as a trader to live on your own?

Scott, you can say that my 30 years of experience is silly and that your previous experience means alot, but it doesn't mean squat. You obviously don't have a clue, but you're a newbie so I won't beat you up. I could give you the profile of a successful trader, but I don't think you'd get it.

How much capital do you typically need as a trader to live on your own?

But you don't even mention losses. Surely, you have a losing day or two. Also, if you believe everything your trader buddies tell you, I have some swampland in Florida I would like to show to you. Bottom line, it you make 80% return in anything annualized, the players will find you and shove...

How much capital do you typically need as a trader to live on your own?

I've been day-trading for 35 years, and that has been my sole income. All bullshit aside, I don't even approach an average of 80% per year, and I'm very good. I suspect you don't either. Incidentally, I also trade a couple million bushels of grain at a whack, and my default size for ES is 100...

How much capital do you typically need as a trader to live on your own?

I wonder how much crack these guys are smoking. Geez, 80% return a year, every year, no problem............. If one was making 20% a quarter on a regular basis, a big trading house would pick them up and they'd make $30 Million a year, without any risk. I strongly suspect the author...

How did you get your trading capital?

In 1973, when I was a junior in high school, my cousin and I bought soybeans before the Russians bought our crop. I invested $1500, and so did he(cousin was a runner at the CBOT). I ended up making over $60K, which I promptly lost within 6 months. Kept trading over the next few years, playing...
