    Jokes

I think this joke is originally from German where it is slightly (only slightly) funnier. The punchline: - Cactussssssssssssssssssssssss! - Wasssssssssssssssssssssssss? Was meaning "What?" in German. Martin

    Looking for prop firm

Hey Shortseller, I'm just a fly on the wall here, but DC has you dead to rights. You call him a joke, not serious, baby account, then claim you intend no disrespect. Now you say you're a businessman and a professional? Get your story straight. Martin

Trahan calling for 20% gain on S&P in 2006

Not to belabor the obvious, but nobody knows whether he will be right or wrong. Here is a strong argument why he is unlikely to be right, and even if he is right those gains are even less likely to to be durable. http://hussmanfunds.com/wmc/wmc050912.htm Martin

    Google Guys Buy A 767

Here's the irony. When Google went public Sergei and Larry told the company at one of their Friday beer busts, "We don't want to see a lot of exotic cars and SUVs in the parking lot, we can't let all this money go to our heads. Nothing would make us happier than a parking lot full of Toyota...

Can you provide any of that strong evidence? You've made a claim that's quite hard to prove. Martin

    Taking bets on FNM here....

As an investor, I wouldn't buy it at any price. Wall Street has consistently underestimated the risk in this stock and underreacted to negative news. The only thing that can save FNM is politics and I don't bet on politics. Martin

    Natural Gas

I think a short oil / long natural gas play is worth watching. They are energy equivalent at a ratio of 5:1 between QM and QG. I was in at 8:1 and out at 7.5:1, now it's at about 6.75:1, I'm really kicking myself for exiting early. Martin

How do you backup your system?

I use two identical 200GB external hard drives. One is kept off site in a secure location. The other is doing automated daily incremental backups and weekly full backups using shell scripts under Linux. I swap the drives once a month. I have heard good things about Dantz Retrospect for...

We Need A Linux Distro For Trading

Granted, but Aunt Millie (or Joe Trader) doesn't give a shit whose fault it is, she just wants her computer to work. You can't say Linux is easy to use just because it's "the industry's" fault that it's hard to use. In any case, even supported hardware can be a real pain to configure in...

We Need A Linux Distro For Trading

Go to Fry's, buy two of the cheapest sound card you can find, put one in a Windows PC and the other in a Linux PC, get them both working. Then come back and tell me that Linux is easier to use than Windows! Martin

We Need A Linux Distro For Trading

Oh come on. Linux is still vastly more complex for the user than Windows. With that complexity comes power, flexibility, etc... but ease of use? No way. Martin

    Jokes

A door to door dildo salesman is making his daily rounds. He knocks on the first door and a brunette answers. He introduces himself, explains that he is selling dildos, and would she like to buy anything today? She says, "I like the looks of that little pink one. How much is it?" He sells it to...

    Jokes

A wealthy Texas rancher and his son are visiting colleges. The son has done quite well in high school and his father wants nothing but the best for him. They are in Boston visiting Harvard, just taking a look around, appreciating the architecture and the old world atmosphere. The rancher stops a...

We Need A Linux Distro For Trading

It's not. I hate Windows and I hold my nose every time I have to use it. Even so, Windows is a more appropriate platform than Linux for most day traders, because that's what most trading software is written for. BTW, I agree that there's no need whatsoever for a trader specific Linux...

NYT Article: In the Long Run, Sleep at Home and Invest in the Stock Market

    d) DRIPs let you reinvest for free, generally at a slight discount to fair market value e) Ameritrade will reinvest dividends for you commission free, just drop them an email. In fact it pisses me off, I had to mail them to get them to stop. I don't know if other brokers will do this too...

    Housing Rolling Along 2

Why do people seem to consider accelerating home construction to be bullish for housing prices? News like, "Gold production at record highs and still growing fast" would hardly be bullish for gold prices. If OPEC were increasing production with no end in sight, I would be short oil. Martin
