    Any prop firms hiring?

Right, I was under the impression that you put up capital (say $5000) and they would contribute $95,000 to give you 20:1 leverage. Since futures have leverage inherently built in, why would anyone work at a prop firm and pay fees and other costs in the first place?

    Any prop firms hiring?

Pardon me for my ignorance, but why do people usually join prop firms? Do they offer training or something else to people who join? I'm thinking that you could trade in your own home if the only thing they offered was an office.

Buying options to control a company?

I believe Porsche used privately negotiated options to take control of Volkswagen. I imagine that if an investor were to buy options on the open market, they would have to buy so much that it would come to other traders' attention (sudden increase in open interest) and make it difficult to buy...

usdjpy trade boring me to tears

Are EUR/JPY and USD/JPY correlated in any way? EUR/JPY has been showing weakness the past few days. I think there is a chance that USD/JPY will not breach 100 if these two are indeed correlated.

    Crocs...

IMO, the problem is that Croc's business model is fundamentally flawed. I had a chance to look at the shoes they sell and they are nothing but pieces of rubber shaped into shoes. Even if the economy does recover, people are eventually going to realize that paying $50 or even $20 for a piece of...

Diamond prices way off - Bloomberg

Diamonds that come from mines, or "natural" diamonds, as some like to call them, are going to become commodities in a few years. Fake diamonds (made of materials such as cubic zirconium) are getting better and better each year, and there are now many labs that even produce artificial diamonds.

Yes that was the strategy I was referring to.

Short FAS/FAZ at same time ?

The thread link provided above talks about how there is a possibility that FAZ could increase in price exponentially and cause anyone carrying out this strategy to experience a margin call. Since options are available for FAZ and FAS, one could short both ETFs as the original poster suggested...

Short FAS/FAZ at same time ?

Couldn't you use options to hedge your exposure or would that make this strategy no longer work?

Lawmaker eyes recoupment of mark-to-market losses

Changing the valuation model won't work for 2 reasons. Many investors will demand that companies still give mark to market numbers for their impaired assets. Secondly, many of these assets might be worth even less than what they are being carried on the books. Just because you are still holding...

Mark to Market Meeting April 2

Changing to a mark to model valuation won't change anything because investors will ask for the mark to market numbers similar to how companies have to state what the LIFO reserve is.

Hyundai Seizes ‘Once-in-Lifetime’ Chance as Crisis Slows Toyota

About 20 years ago, industry experts said that a Japanese luxury brand (Lexus) would never sell much less compete with its German rivals. Today, Lexus is the best selling luxury brand here in the U.S. While it is unlikely Hyundai will overtake Toyota anytime soon, I wouldn't say that it is...

Hyundai Seizes ‘Once-in-Lifetime’ Chance as Crisis Slows Toyota

I have to agree with you on this. The current generation Toyota Camry's interior looks like it came out of a toy factory - hard, gray plastics nearly everywhere. The Sonata, especially the 2009 update, arguably has one of the best interiors in its class. Considering how Toyotas no longer have...

Qatar Islamic Bank to Raise $200 Million European Sukuk Fund

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but the interest is built into the final price like a zero coupon bond. So for example, a $100 bond maturing in 1 year and yielding 5% would sell for $95.23.

Why are you blaming the CME group? I don't think they had anything to do with the PDT rule in the first place.
