    Jan 17 2:00 PM Fed's Beige Book

Dip buyers know the trick: They know with 100% certainty that buying a 2 point dip in the ER2 will yield 6-8 points in profit within 90-180 minutes. It's as easy as going all out long 1000% margin on ER2 and then kick back and watch a DVD or so while the rally is underway. Shorts get...

    Jan 17 2:00 PM Fed's Beige Book

I think we will see a huge sell off in the ER2 (for 2 points or so) and after the dip buyers come in we will end up +1%

Indices hold ground after PPI data

INTC and CSCO do not matter to the indices anymore. In fact, all single stocks do not matter. It seems in this market all components of a major index these days could be down, the index would still be up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Trading in a Different Country

The lesson I learned is: You get what you pay for. Either you pay taxes and you have a decent country with decent prices. Or you pay no taxes and you will get ripped off like crazy with high living costs. A beer in a typical Bahamas or Bermuda bar is US $12. Taxdodgers drive up prices...

    Trading in a Different Country

CH: Good Internet connectivity, very safe and secure country. Great if you're a winter sports freak, too. If you only speak English you will have a problem communicating. German or French help a lot. Very expensive country thanks to Russians and worldwide VIPs invading it and jacking up prices...

    Trading in a Different Country

It's not as easy as it sounds. Consult a good offshore tax lawyer before you proceed with this. Yes, it is possible. But you don't want to make a mistake the IRS can exploit to rip you off after a few years.

    Trading in a Different Country

If you're a US citizen you will likely remain taxable under the arm of the US IRS, regardless of where you live.

    Reasoning for the sell off

Here's a touchup with reality: Stocks are always owned by somebody. It's not like 50% of all market capitalization is "unowned" at any point in time. Somebody is always long. "Nobody is long" = Impossible. That's how markets work. What happens is positions change hands. And they change hands...

    Reasoning for the sell off

Makes you wonder why markets ever go down, doesn't it? They should just go straight up following your rationale because everybody will always think they're too high already.

    Reasoning for the sell off

Nope, not on a net basis. I'm reducing long exposure.

    Reasoning for the sell off

Amazing how many blind bulls we have here. Just like in August everybody "knew" they'd get rich by shorting everything blindly now it seems all you have to do is go 200% long QQQQs and take a nap. This rally is tired. You can see it in the MOMO names, Emerging Markets, Commodity stocks...

    go ahead and short tomorrow,

"Apple Headlines 1/9/2007 12:27 PM EST Apple (AAPL) headlines are coming in. Jobs says "we're only talking about the Mac today" and that Paramount is a new partner for movies. So no phone, but Top Gun will be on iTunes. Sounds like a fair trade-off to me. "

    go ahead and short tomorrow,

MOMO stocks acting iffy. AAPL just dropped 2 bucks. RIMM down 5 points for the day from the open. This isn't looking pretty. Nervousness all around.

    Reasoning for the sell off

AAPL just dropped 2 bucks. The MOMO kids must be crying.

    go ahead and short tomorrow,

I too am seeing a lot of ugliness out there. Not on the SP500 and Dow Jones yet but those are usually late to the party when it's quitting time. Emerging Markets tanking due to oil. R2000 very ugly. China imploding. Market is nervous there is no question. It seems (!) we're topping out...

    trend following delusion shattered

Altucher is a smart cookie, you gotta give him that. But this "trend following is dead AS OF RIGHT NOW (today)" top has been called dozens of times. Just browse your copy of Market Wizards and you see old school traders that could be Altuchers Daddy proclaiming the death of trend followers...
