    Backing Away

What I usually do is try to document as much information as possible. For instance, I find out if the option is locked or crossed or in fast market mode. If it isn't, I get the time I entered my order and get the time the quote existed (the exchange and the time the old quote was entered and the...

    Backing Away

If the market that you are trading in is in "fast market mode", then the exchanges have the right to fade any order since all quotes are subject. Likewise, if the option that you are trading is "locked or crossed", then the market makers/specialists do not have to honor the quote and can back...

    Propriertary options trading firms?

As a broker dealer or market maker, you do get better margin requirements than customers. However, as a broker dealer or market maker there are a few disadvantages. First, you CANNOT use the system to enter orders on some exchanges (in other words, you will need a floor trader to enter your...

    nyse buy and sell imbalances

Imbalances began to be published because of abuses in the 1980s. For example, if XYZ Brokerage Firm knew that it had S&P 500 stocks to buy at the end of the day, they used to go down to the floor and put sell orders in size for the S&P 500 stocks. The crowd would see this and the market got hit...

    Ise Option Exchange Rules?

I believe that you can trade a 1 lot if you want. I believe that you can cancel the order any time. However, you are probably better off e-mailing your question to: surveillance@iseoptions.com www.iseoptions.com

    NYSE Order question

The NYSE is not an electronic exchange so your order will not lock or cross the current market. The specialist will take your order and either execute it or use it to update the quote (if the stock trades ahead of you or the bid/offer cancels).

    Shorting QQQ....AMEX vs. NYSE

The QQQs and other ETFs were granted a "no action" letter by the SEC. This allows them to be shorted on a downtick. In addition, it doesn't matter where they trade (AMEX, NYSE, or a regional). Normal uptick rules apply for other AMEX and NYSE issues.

    Implied Volatility, Greeks

Absolutely you should be focused on implied volatility. If implieds are low (based on historical levels) then you want to be a buyer. If implieds are high (based on historical levels), then you want to be a seller. There are ways to play the volatility game (straddles, strangles, etc.)...

    New options contracts

If you are interested in trading a new strike price, you would need to contact your broker's option department. They could then call the floor and tell them that a customer in interested in trading a particular month and strike. After they are given this information, it is usually the next...

IB TWS APIs - Great until IB crippled them

The AMEX restricted them. Then again from a trader's standpoint, you wouldn't want to go to the AMEX because: (1) takes forever to get an execution (2) takes forever to get a cancel (3) they charge you for a cancel (4) usually no price improvement at the AMEX Thus, you are better off...

    NYSE OpenBook

Do sell short orders or stop limit orders ever appear in OpenBook? A: Sell short orders and stop limit orders appear in OpenBook when they are filed on the book or “elected” as limit orders. Because these orders have special conditions, they will appear in OpenBook at the price where...

IB TWS APIs - Great until IB crippled them

ISE is the chosen as the BEST because it is much easier to cancel these orders. Sometimes if you place an order with the AMEX, CBOE, or Philly and the specialist/market maker hasn't "seen" the order, it could be a nightmare trying to cancel your option order (i.e., it has taken minutes in a fast...

    Selling Premium?

Definately legging them in. Taking a directional bet (got to wait a bit for the QQQ to move in my direction). Then getting the middle and the other wing in at the same time. Really no way of doing it for a credit otherwise.

    Selling Premium?

You can actually put these on with a little bit of leg risk on the QQQ. However, I have been only able to do them on the $1 strike increments (i.e., 35-36-37) so it actually isn't that great a deal when you include commissions.
