    Software for options backtesting data?

Hi What software is available that has intraday options backtesting data? I've tried optionnet explorer but find it a bit clunky to get all the Greeks data. I'd also like to get snapshots on the bid asks at specific intervals. ONE only provides the mid. Also, I'd like to download the datasets...

SPX vs SPY - spread comparison and greeks

yep, MM managing their books. a lot less liquidity, hence more arbitrary pricing by the MM. At least, that's my take on it.

SPX vs SPY - spread comparison and greeks

Interesting ... I've just noticed that ndx does not decay the same as SPX. I. E. It should decay more than it actually is. I wonder if this is due to the ES effect? Could also be differences in iv and how iv is priced in... interesting... I was just doing a comparison using the Optionnet...

SPX vs SPY - spread comparison and greeks

the difference in the greeks is when comparing different trading platforms. e.g ToS, IB, TS, etc... same strike, expiry, etc... the only difference being the trading platform that is providing the greek (delta, theta, etc...). I don't think I will get the answer as to the formula they use. eg...

SPX vs SPY - spread comparison and greeks

not sure i agree with that. I view them as data sets and part of the 'language' by which we use to determine and assess our trades. Likewise, many books (and courses) have been written about how important it is to understand the greeks. It makes sense that the greeks should be consistent. We...

SPX vs SPY - spread comparison and greeks

yeah, i've noticed that the greeks are different in different broker's. e.g IB vs the other smaller shop I use. I've actually asked about what exact formula they use but couldn't get the answer.

SPX vs SPY - spread comparison and greeks

Hi, Curious as to how ppl's experience has been in trading spreads in spy vs SPX. Greeks, iv etc... How have you found they compared? Can a successful spy trader move to SPX with the same market feel and trading strategies, or how is it different? Likewise... What are ppl's experiences with...

SPX vs SPY - your experience with trading them?

Why would you say that spy has an advantage in leaps?

SPX vs SPY - your experience with trading them?

checking out RUT today... wow, those are very wide spreads. is it always that wide? puts you at the mercy of the MM when it is that wide.

SPX vs SPY - your experience with trading them?

Yeah, MM play their games but everyone wants to make a buck and MM provide liquidity. Sometimes I try a different strike ...

SPX vs SPY - your experience with trading them?

So when you said anecdotally were comparing to SPX? I have noticed that the spreads for the equivalent number of QQQ contracts to ndx seems pretty good. Especially since QQQ options seem to have wider spreads. If a person can trade ndx it might be a good way to go.

SPX vs SPY - your experience with trading them?

I thought since it is basically QQQ * 40, that the pricing would match that. I guess the market makers widen the spreads on big moves?

SPX vs SPY - your experience with trading them?

Thanks. On a similar note, any trade ndx? Seems like a good way to trade the nasdaq. Qqq spreads seem wider than ndx... Of course, there is the lot size difference.

SPX vs SPY - your experience with trading them?

Hi So I'm looking at trading SPX options instead of SPY options. I've done research in comparing them. What have been your experiences in trading the two? What did you learn when you started trading SPX compared to SPY? Anywhere to get more research and reading material on trading SPX? Thanks

    Super long expiration leaps

interesting... with spreads as wide as they are LEAPS (especially less liquid names), sounds like the spread game is even worse on these products. i.e. underlying has move a lot before the position is profitable

¿wth? nflx moved 4 to 14 points in favor of my positions, still barely broke even.

With options, the market makers set the prices and they have to manage their books. They will buy and sell as they see fit. It helps to understand the behaviour of the mm of whatever stock/underlying you are trading (eg nflx). I believe (and if someone More experienced can confirm) there are...

    Super long expiration leaps

So what if a person can be an accredited investor (imo, just a fancy term for a larger account size)? How does one get access to them otc? I'm also guessing they are not very liquid ... Has anyone here traded 5 years leaps before?

    Super long expiration leaps

Hi, I've read about them in the past in Schwager's market wizards. (eg 5 or 10 expiration dates) How does one get ahold of these? I've called IB and looked around but don't see them anyway. The expiries don't match the the OCC's list. Are these a special item?

selling OTM naked calls - Option Clearing Q

I understand that part but if I just sold OTM calls, I wouldn't be short until I actually get called on the contracts. " If the stock has halted, they can't buy you in.", then wouldn't i just be short the calls? do you mean i can be charged interest on being short the calls? thanks!
