Anybody have a career related to markets, but no necessarily trading?

Nonsense. I could go get a MBA from any of the hundreds of crappy MBA programs that have sprouted up over the past 20 years. Not at all a "stamp of smartness". I know idiots who have their MBAs. I wouldn't trust them with parking fare, let alone actual liquid net worth.

MBA doesn't mean crap unless it is from a REAL MBA program - Wharton, Harvard, Columbia. That's what my boss, who has been in the business for 30 years, says. Everything else is like - woohoo. great. you decided to do more schooling and put yourself in debt. a monkey could do that.

    System any good?

Using the VIX ETNs, yes, very small. Most months have 0-3 trades. Using VIX Futures, the strategy would trade at least a little bit every day. This is 2000 days of data, so I'm comfortable with the sample size.

pff ivy. i agree with that one guy though - getting a cfa or mba won't make you a better trader.

Anybody have a career related to markets, but no necessarily trading?

Level 1 is 'easy' - in the fact that if you study enough, you WILL pass. Levels 2 & 3 are a whole different ball game. Hardest tests I've ever seen in my life, and I've taken actuarial exams. If you can't pass Level 1 after studying your butt off for 4-6 months, don't bother. You'll never pass...

I'm sorry - false. The guy I was referring to couldn't pass level 1 (on two tries!) and got into Columbia MBA. Whats the pass rate for an MBA class out of Columbia? I'm guessing in the 90's? All 3 CFA exams have 40% pass rate. (0.40)^3.....

    VIX ETF/Futures/Options Discussion Thread

Just wondering what kind of returns you guys make trading your VIX Futures day in and day out. I built a longer-term swing strategy involving these that annualized 80% with 50% vol over 8 years. Ugly but works.

Anybody have a career related to markets, but no necessarily trading?

Yeah. I've seen friends of mine who couldn't even pass the first test (much easier than the 2nd and 3rd) go on and get an MBA from Columbia. They ended up doing just fine, but aren't research analysts. Half of them are freggin marketers. yech.

BS. CFA definitely helps you get a job, but is much harder than MBA. Although MUCH cheaper. MBA helps but you saddle yourself with tons of debt. In my experience, those who cannot get CFA get MBA. Some get both, those are the really driven ones.

    Hedge Funds Performance sites?

Cant think of any. You have to be a QP or work for an advisory firm or institution to register for those sites too. HFR hedge fund induces are free for all though.

    Shorting GOLD with GLL

dude think about it.... you start with $100 Gold starts at $100. day 1 gold down 10%, you up 20%. $120. day 2 gold up 10%, you down 20%. $96. gold at $99. You at $96. rinse, repeat and you always lose. daily inverses ALWAYS lose the longer you go. common sense man, c'mon.
