T-bonds at 0% why not just keep the money?

Oh i did. Actually the only reason i saw was for buying t-bonds; they have rallied last year. But t-notes is different right. They cant rally above 100; so absolutely no reason to be long them? or maybe i missed something.. so trying to understand. -gariki

T-bonds at 0% why not just keep the money?

This is pure zilch. Tbills trading at zero discount; no reason for anyone to buy them but people apparently still bought them. Really? why would they do that? -gariki

Under MTM, is income taxed at a lower rate than capital gains?

Yep. Thats what i suspected. I suppose the main advantage really is not having to do wash sales and the ability to write off more losses than the std 3000$ i will otherwise be able to take. Thanks! -gariki

Under MTM, is income taxed at a lower rate than capital gains?

Oh is it. pop'ups are a thing of the past. Pretty much every browser now has a plugin or an inbuilt way of blocking popups. Look into it. I've not had to kill a popup in gosh.. maybe 4 or 5 years now. If you havent heard about them in the past, google for "popup blockers for my browser...

Under MTM, is income taxed at a lower rate than capital gains?

Really? what makes you think so. Just to clear one thing off; i am not advertising for whoever wrote that article or anything. i am an individual trader just trying to make sense of all the rules and stuff and trying to see how to optimize my resource allocations. And attached is WOT ranking...

Under MTM, is income taxed at a lower rate than capital gains?

I was reading an article and came across this statement; not sure if it was an error or what. "Under MTM, income is taxed at a lower rate than capital gains." http://www.tradejuice.com/traders-tax/mark-market-accounting-2-ta.htm Really i did not know if you select MTM, your income...

Trader tax - US vs Canada

Turns out i am wrong (technically not; but practically yes; because even when i am not in canada i will trade through my status in canada and hence have canadian income even though i am not in the country). Actually if i become a canadian citizen and say live in india for an year and trade prop...

This is Why U.S. college educations are worthless.

In general my observation has been that in countries that do better in educating their population, in general there is a deep sense of need for the masses to get educated so that they can elevate their standard of living. In the developed countries they already have enough money to live a decent...

Trader tax - US vs Canada

Quote from JRL: In Canada, if you're a daytrader, and earn your income daytrading, you'll be deemed to be in the business of daytrading, and any income earned by the business will be subject to business income (NOT capital gains). That is true even in the US for me now because i have been...

How did you do for 2011?

FreakOfNature, honest advise: trade small if you are trying to figure out what your nitche is. Trade very very small until you can consinstently make money. Again. Very.. very small. -gariki

Crisis of confidence in the futures market

When you deposit money in your checking/savings account, you dont pay FDIC insurance. Neither do you pay SIPC insurance when you deposit money in a brokerage account. Why should futures accounts be any different? its the same George Washington :). -gariki

Crisis of confidence in the futures market

+1. Without the above steps it would be just another public funded bailout like all the other bank bailouts we have done so far. And lets hope they actually create a third party trust fund with insurance much like the insurance we currently have for equity accounts. That would be one good...

    Dumb Option Question

Most likely you are looking at the futures contract on the DOM (/6E) - and let me guess; you must have bought a put or a call two strikes away. Your option that you bought though can only loose (not to say its a good thing) the amount you already paid. But yes; watch for possible assignment...

    The incredible sadness of austerity

+1 and very very sad indeed. But guess what; the people responsible for the whole thing got away without a scratch and are in helm again. And more sad"er"; where is the motivation for them to do anything different the next time around. Guess how long before we see this sad movie again...

OpenQuant + AmiBroker: my recipe for building robust Automated Trading Systems

Anybody knows if i can use the plugin or whatever provided by the dotnetforab folks to say run my AB systems and call the Sterling API? Or if there is any other plugin/software piece that i can use to call sterling API directly from my AB programs without having to recode them in some other...

    Options education question

Today i was watching a movie where in someone says something like "when there is a gold rush but no real gold; there is still a lot of money to be made selling shovels". Thats what ICs are all about; atleast the way a few folks teach/market them. They are pretty good for the books of your...

List of obscure trading related videos, movies

One movie to definitely watch is Michael Moore's "Capitalism: A love story". He tells the story of capitalism from a completely different side. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=JeROnVUADj0 Wall Street - Money never sleeps is good also. -gariki

help? for people researching options training

+100 to Maverick's advise. There is a ton of free stuff online; and actually its much better than any paid content you will find anywhere. I have pointed to this material before also; but here it goes again. Go to tos archives and scroll down all the way down 4-5years back; and listen to...

Black Hole Debt - 16 Trillion Dollars

isnt that unbelievable. Some times when i think about things like these i figure its all comming to haunt our savings or whatever wealth creation most of us busy doing; but not much we can do about it - the whole system is completely screwed. So go back to devise systems and put on...

Hypothetical Question: if crude = $35 next week, would that fix the economy?

Agreed. No place to hide. Canada maybe? but it generates 80% of its GDP (or something like that) from it neighbor to the south. So its no good either.
