    IB and scalping

What/where is this? I've printed the entire TWS user's guide. Are you talking about something else? Thanks!

But how can even the realtively sophisticated investor notice that an option is mispriced. It seems like you need some pretty exceptional experience and proprietary software to be able to beat the MM's and arbs at their own game. A friend of mine who used trade options for J.P. Morgan said...

I just opened an IB account. I noticed that about ISE for spreads.. I thought tha't pretty weird. I also have a Thinkorswim account. Their spreads regularly go to the CBOE.

The Only Vertical Spread that I Think has an Edge

I've got a copy of Cottles book "Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda" with me right now. :)

which option software is best ??

Options Station is not sold in the US and it's functionality will be part of TS7. I've heard that OptionsVue is the best, esp for realtime scanning but more expensive, not useful for anything other than options and has a different modules to buy which can jack the price up even further...

The Only Vertical Spread that I Think has an Edge

Bull Put spread. It seems all debit verticals are no better than just buying the call or put b/c the appreciation of the option you sold eats into your return and flattens your Profit vs Underlying Price curve, even if it's still OTM. All those straight line P/L graphs w/ 45 degree angle turns...

    Legging in

Do many of you leg into spreads or do you submit it as spread order? If you leg, do you do the longs first so you don't get whacked on the margin & exposure of a naked position? Thanks.

Anyone Care to Explain Today's Rally? :)

While I agree with you that there are philanthropic endeavors that only someone like Soros can undertake, there is also a lot I can and do do right now that have nothing to do with tax bracket. BTW, an old roommate of mine's father was good friends with George Soros. He's a much more...

Expiration Friday's Effect on the Market

Thanks a lot for the answers guys. And I think it actually goes a long way towards explining my other question about why the DXJ and DAV's were trading somewhat differently yesterday. Well the DJX expires on Thursday and the DAV's expire on Friday/Sat. So thanks again.

Anyone Care to Explain Today's Rally? :)

I think people do what they feel comfortable with. Maybe I'm living on a slippery slope, but we all do that in some way or another with most of our opinions, decisions, beliefs. And bumping the decision up to a higer authority like the exchange decide is perfectly logical, but it doesn't so much...

Anyone Care to Explain Today's Rally? :)

I don't know if I'd qualify. I actually think about what I'd do if another attack takes place. I've come to the conclusion that I'd cover any longs and try to hedge any positions I know my family has out there, but I wouldn't go short. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I just couldn't live...

Anyone Care to Explain Today's Rally? :)

Great post. I think it really shows how technicals used w/o news can be very misleading. Maybe a more experienced chart reader would have been able to differentiate this move from a legitmate change in the daily trend. I was listening to Bloomberg tv and it announced the news right when the...

So what did the market tell you and when?

Anyone Care to Explain Today's Rally? :)

Okay, I was really caught off guard by this. It didn't cost me anything b/c I stayed out today which was kind of stupid b/c the set up I was looking for happened in the am (essentially a dip in the Dow after the mild increase from the morning.) So what caused this rally? Did any of you expect...

Expiration Friday's Effect on the Market

Can you explain the mechanics that cause this "chop"? I heard today that expiration should actually keep the market from dropping too far today and add some support--that doesn't sound like chop to me. Thanks a lot, I appreciate your help.

Expiration Friday's Effect on the Market

Can anyone shed some light on how expiration Friday can potentially affect the market for the underlying? Thanks a lot.

    TS is NOT Direct Access

Michael, Thank you for your reply. My IB account will be funded once the ACAT goes through. When that happens, I'll have another broker to compare to TS side by side. I have had good experiences with TS customer service and not so good experiences with some of their futures fills/confirms...

WTF?? DJX and DIA Optoins Moving Differently

The difference between the opens can be pretty big sometimes, like .60 vs .90 for the same contract specs. And the amount that they move can vary a lot. I guess what you're saying is it just depends on if someone hit the bid or met the the ask and that those .20 spreads we can see in the option...

    TS is NOT Direct Access

I've been asking everyone about this issue & it seems that IB is the bare minimum if you want to quickly trade the ES. Up from that level are FCM's that offer X-Trader or J-Trader interfaces. Anyone, please feel free to chime in. Thanks. BTW, there was an excellent list of questions for...
