    SMA trading

Interested in your opinion. Poll should read: using ONLY an SMA. No other indicators. Assume: Just one SMA, no crossover, no EMA. Appropriate exit strategy, money management, and time scale. Thanks!

    Now Documented: Brain Kills Profits

Really I just use what makes money. I've been making money so i'm happy with the method. No one has access to information from the future. A "closed bar" represents a user defined end to a sampling interval. So if you really believe what you've said, try this: (a)Do your backtest...

    Now Documented: Brain Kills Profits

What you are saying is on the current bar, the moving average varies. Now consider this: after the bar has closed, that part of the moving average no longer changes. So if you take your signal off a closed bar (like I do) you CAN do a backtest that makes sense and is executable in real time...

    Now Documented: Brain Kills Profits

simple moving average! Just 1! no crossovers! You gotta backtest it on whatever you're trading first to learn about how much profit to take and what the drawdowns are. And it doesn't work for day trading. That's why so many people here don't believe it works at all. You gotta hold...

You want a great contrarian indicator? Me + a NOT gate. Hah! Check this out.. I trade with a simple moving average system, no gimmicks. I should say, I developed one, and tried to put it into practice. Along the way, I make various "judgement calls"-- open a trade a little earlier or...

    trading S/R

Supposing you've already got your S/R numbers worked out, what are some basic techniques to trade S/R? It seems like there are so many way to do it, each with it's on advantages/disadvantages. One i've been toying with is: take your position when price is at or near the S/R. Look at price...

    Experience with Advanced Futures?

Good, though I am a small trader and they just increased my round turn from $5.90 to $7.90 (on June 1). One bad thing, if you hold positions overnight the computer doesn't know about it, so you have to keep track of your position manually.

Is There Such a Thing as a CONSISTENTLY Profitable Trading System?

A method I use which works well: Suppose you have a parameter "X" Run the test and graph the results vs. "X" There should be range of "X" over which the system is profitable I Choose "X" in the middle of the range. Now get a little funky: if you have two parameters, this makes a...

    30/34 system

Off the cuff i'll say the strategy needs a profit target plus a stops to breakeven point or trailing stop to be profitible. I trade SMAs and have always found this to be a necessary ingredient to those strategies.

    Moving Averages-simple or exponential

indeed I use SMA (different ones for different time frames, depending on what i'm trading) The key is taking that profit. The SMA gives you a "line in the sand" much like S/R or channel. There is a cost to cross the line (whipsaw). Profit should pay for several line crossings.

    Line in the Sand

I have never made money daytrading. And of those methods mentioned I've only seen S/R work for daytraders. I'd be interested to hear if others have had a different experience. But the single MA is working great for me, with overnight holds. Also cuts down on those commissions.

    Advise for new futures trader.

heh, y'know, I feel like the NQ is my buddy, and i'm just trying to figure out what he's up to. I tell ya what, it helped my long term stock investing a great deal; with futures you exercise proper money management or you die; you exit smartly or you die; with stocks you can learn bad...

    Line in the Sand

Hi Folks, some thoughts tying together several trading methods: Trading a moving average, breakouts, or S/R have this in common: a "line in the sand" where you go long when price closes above and short when price crosses below. It costs money to cross the line; long periods of whipsawing...
