    The Surf Report

Surf may need to work on a scaling out strategy. He has a scaling in, I believe I read it as 3 entries martingale. I wonder why he doesn't do the same on the way out. or maybe trade around a winning position. ie if he had 1000 YM short, why not take 75% profit after a 4% move, and hold on to...

The difference is that Rogers considers price as entry/exit, tho not the primary reason. It is secondary to trend discovery. Rogers also buys into a new trend near or at decade lows. Rogers shorts into a new downtrend near or at decade highs. He is not a pure technician, but he is not a pure...

A short term "trend" really isn't a trend. It's a ripple. This is where TA shines. Playing the seesaw game in open interest and short term oscillation of price.

Yes, but trends occur over a period that is always a time unit greater than what most traders are willing to hold on for. Trends are cyclical in nature and don't exist for seconds, days or the few weeks that the vast majority of traders are involved in.

Most are looking for the grail in the wrong place. You cannot find trend via price study alone.

Jim Rogers is probably the most successful trendfollower of our generation. Master trendfollower. Recent trends he nailed in past 5 years: Shanghai/HSI long Crude Oil long Metals/Gold long Agriculture/Corn long Dollar short Housing/homebuilder crash Financials short Rogers...

Ask a kid. Kids have a special talent for seeing thru the lies. They are masters of trend discovery. It's when interest in some object or concept rapidly increases within a timeframe. It often seems random to traders because they have "time bias". Trends typically develop over a time...

Enough's enough... your blanket comment on trend following + any and all technical analysis models is the dumbest thing I've heard. You scorn lots of things. To top that, you pretend that nobody makes money doing such and the success stories you hear aren't real. It reminds me of a...

most people get into many things not knowing what kinds of frustration they face. art included. most hobbies are put away after the trial and error phase.. most people find that they aren't very artisitic. yes, many people get into trading thinking that it is as easy as the idea of...

Same could be said about art schools and art supply stores. Only a handful become the next Pollock or ever sell work for any substantial amount. But it worked for them. Again, you focus on the average joe.

all 1000 in the MLB are doing quite well. the average salary is near $3MM, the best making $20-25MM. now let's get to trading. i know quite a few who make more than $5MM a year and that's in my small world of trading peers. I'd say they're pretty successful. the best? no. but that's...

Ever consider that individuals rate differently on tests of cognition. That some are actually superior and can develop a superior mental ability over time. But that would be too un-pc for the "every-man". Why are you so obsessed with the realm of the mediocre? That when the mediocre...

The markets like any other game, be it in professional baseball or football is NOT where the mediocre or the average succeed. It is the job of sellside research and the thousands of vendors who suggest it is and so masses believe it. If you want to call him a black swan, so be it. i...
