    Internet Connection Speed

Latency means the delay. It is how fast your signal can be transmitted from your source to the destination. In layman's terms example: Sending your package using Federal Express overnight - low latency. Good. U.S. Postal Service regular mail - high latency. Bad

    Internet Connection Speed

In today's market, I don't think so. (Back in 2008 it might be.) I have both DSL and cable modem. I put 1 desktop and 1 laptop to share the DSL bandwidth, which max out at 5 mbps. The desktop has many different charts, many of which are tick charts. Running TradeStation 9.1. No problem...

    on-CPU graphics vs. GPU card

Based on your descriptions, I don't think a GPU (whether on-chip GPU or on a separate video card) will help your process. What I envisioned is that this is basically a batch process. Yes you input the parameter of 1 fps or 2 fps or whatever based on what you see in the still pictures. After...

    on-CPU graphics vs. GPU card

Hi mgookin: To understand your process further, my key question to ask is: is this a batch process - you don't see any display on the screen. The computer just take the input files, does that the program tells it, and produces some output files? Or is it an interactive process - the...

    on-CPU graphics vs. GPU card

I don't understand this. When your program does the stitching of many frames from time-lapsed video recording, it is a CPU-intensive operation. The output would be some video files on your computer. This is basically a batch process, done without you looking at any of the video. How is a...

How do I get a 3rd monitor with only one video card?

It looks like you are using the SIIG USB-to-VGA pro adapter, which runs the DisplayLink Manager software. There is an easier way than unplugging and plugging in to test which monitors are hooked up via USB. (Assumed Windows 7)... in your lower right (notification area), find the icon the...

How do I get a 3rd monitor with only one video card?

There are dangers in making blanket statements. The OP was talking about adding video card(s) for a desktop. If you pick a video card that looks likes this: http://www.hitechreview.com/it-products/pc/ati-radeon-hd-5870-eyefinity-6-edition-graphics-card-is-here/23286/ Then yes. I...

Build Your Own - Step by Step ( i7 2600k)

I think what calhawk01 said as "fastest" is just a general, relative term. We are not competing to build a machine to do weather forecast. Unless he has special requirements for his trading (but from his post I didn't catch that). i7 third generation is pretty good to me.

Build Your Own - Step by Step ( i7 2600k)

What did you mean by "gold standard"? I haven't shopped around for a while. It seems that you can build it yourself with something like: - i7 third generation processor - a motherboard that supports it, with 3+ PCIe X16 slots - 8 GB of RAM, or maybe make it 16 GB of RAM - a 128 GB SSD...

Where does your external video "card" plug into on the laptop? Want some clarifications. Any specific make/model?

    Laptop multi-monitors

I am scratching my head. This is a discussion on a laptop. Why would an additional graphic card and a more powerful power supply come in to the picture?

    Laptop multi-monitors

Sorry I read the whole thread rather quickly. My mind was occupied by all the talks about docstations and triple head monsters. LOL :D So... OP... do whatever Xspurt said!

    Laptop multi-monitors

There is no need to buy a docstation. Your built-in VGA or HDMI can take care of your Samsung 23" monitor as a second screen. Buy a USB-to-VGA adapter, plug it in to a USB port and you can have your third screen.

    Trading Computer

Not much to show. I couldn't find any manufactured monitor stand that would address my needs, let alone expensive, I made mine with simplicity - just some crates and fibre boards, and some simple $29.99 mounts screwed to the boards and brackets holding the boards together. You haven't seen...

The link seems clean and legitimate. Not that I use their products... I use "Armstrong" brand. Most my monitor stands are custom, hand-made by yours truly. LOL

Need advice on laptops for trading

Whatever laptop you buy... just don't buy HP. :p :( Bad experiencessssss. (Need to multiply the plural). I have been eye'ing on: Sony Vaio 17.3" laptop model SVE17125CXB, 8GB memory, 750GB hard drive Last month they came on sale for USD $900. Resolution 1920x1080, i7 third...

MB Desktop Pro - focus on CPU or GPU?

What do you need a powerful graphics card for, really? Does your trading software plot the price charts in 3D polygons with translucency and plays a bomb explosion animation sequence when price hits your level? :p Unless you meant to play video games on the same box when you are not...

Strange Logitech trackball cursor drifting up

I use Logitech trackballs on all my desktop computers. On one of the computers, a few days ago I observed that the cursor kept drifting up on its own. Wherever I move the trackball cursor, it starts drifting up from there vertically until it hits the ceiling. 3 days ago, it drifted up...
