    14 monitor setup

What make/model do you use? Also, upthread, did we have a mix of terminologies? DisplayPort is the interface standard between the computer video card and the monitor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort And DisplayLink: DisplayLink is a semiconductor and software technology...

    14 monitor setup

You may have a few challenges with your design concept. I have not tried anything remotely like what you are thinking, but I think you may need to look at a few things: - Are you running 2 or more big video cards, each capable of supporting 4+ or 6+ monitors? Those cards tend to be huge...

    Broadband Problem / Load Balancer

Well... that was a different context. Networking solution is very context-dependent. What works in one environment may not work well or work at all in a different environment. In general, sure, setting up devices in this hierachy of "WAN >> Modem >> Router >> Switch >> Computers & Devices"...

    Broadband Problem / Load Balancer

I don't think splitting the modem and router and switch will improve the overall performance. (I am not sure what the original context was which prompted TJ to make such suggestions. I do not wish to dig back into old posts.) I think with your "all-in-one" device (I don't have any direct...

    Broadband Problem / Load Balancer

It seems that this is a very simple case. You have DSL service from the provider. They give you this "all-in-one modem/outer". You just plug in a RJ45 (straight through) patch cord from your computer's NIC card to this modem. (They provide at least one RJ45 socket, right?). You are...

    Broadband Problem / Load Balancer

I think this concept is outdated by at least 10 years. The latest wireless standard, wireless N (or IEEE 802.11n) has a net data rate of 54 Mbit/s to 600 Mbit/s, much higher than what you can get from your Internet access provider. DSL 5 Mbps max. Cable modem, 10 to 15 Mbps or more, fiber...

    Broadband Problem / Load Balancer

Bernard111: I am very unclear on what you have, and what you want to do. Throw away all the vendor names and model names for a moment. You should start with what internet access provider you have (sounds like cable modem), figure out what you want to do, then you seek for solutions, then...

Windows 7 not recognizing multiple EVGA display cards

Indeed trouble-shooting can be hard. We can only do our best to co-relate all the observations and seemingly cause-and-effect. Often times, problems are compounded and the real cause is not straight-forward to see. We have to do systematic tests, make hypothesis, collect evidence to...

Windows 7 not recognizing multiple EVGA display cards

That is one thing I couldn't figure out. I can only speculate that the BIOS stores the configuration information (during hardware start-up sequence) in the memory powered by the onboard CR2032 battery. When Windows starts up, with the plug-n-play feature, Windows makes BIOS calls to inquire...

Windows 7 not recognizing multiple EVGA display cards

Thanks again for the additional suggestions Scat and blah12345678. An update: Problem now resolved I know you are all anxious to know what happened! LOL Scat was right on. It was the CMOS battery CR2032. I took out the old one. Voltage still measured 3.1V or so. I bought a new...

Windows 7 not recognizing multiple EVGA display cards

I looked around the BIOS menus with every option 3 times. I couldnt find anything related to the PCIe Xxxx slot settings at all. Next opportunity I shut down and open up the box, I will double check the power cables feeding the PCI bus to see if there is any loose contacts.

Windows 7 not recognizing multiple EVGA display cards

Thanks for the idea Scat. I will test and replace the CMOS battery and see what happens. I was wondering about whether the CMOS memory would hold configuration type of information for the slots. From what I gathered... the issue with Windows "thinking" about some kind of corruption was...

Windows 7 not recognizing multiple EVGA display cards

Thanks for the idea TJ. I think the chance of my motherboard burnt out is low. Again I have been running this configuration for 2 years. Nothing had changed. I only noticed that the chassis fan was getting noisy (it seemed at the time), so I shut down the box and tried replacing the fan...

Strange Logitech trackball cursor drifting up

Just in case anybody is curious on this problem... The cursor drifting problem still went on many months without any resolution. Sometimes the cursor drifted left, sometimes drifted right, sometimes drifted up. Drove me nuts. But... last week, because of a different issue, I happened...

Windows 7 not recognizing multiple EVGA display cards

Hi murrica: I don't know what MSI designated those slots as on the motherboard. Let me just label them as slot #1, 2, 3, 4, 5 6. I have been using slots #1, #2, #3, #4 for the past 2 years. #5 and #6 were not used. It seemed to me as if #1 is the base slot. So I use that as reference...

Windows 7 not recognizing multiple EVGA display cards

Hi Guys... I have this strange problem that is above my head. I wonder if any of you would have some suggestions on what to try. I have one box using MSI Big Bang XPower, CPU is Intel i7-950. The motherboard has 6 PCIe X16 slots. I have been using 4 of them, each with an EVGA 8400GS...

Trading desk requirements and extra stuff

It is not entirely correct. Many laptops offer 3 USB ports these days. With each USB port you can hook up a USB-to-VGA adapter (and there are plenty of those these days). You can do at least 3 external monitors, plus your own laptop screen to make a 4-mon set up. If you get 3 ultrawide...

Can I run 8 to 12 Monitors from one Laptop ?

You have the convenience of responding after a few weeks have passed. At the time, how do you know 1 post wonders are 1 post wonders but not somebody new? = = = = = There we go again... those who cry wolves about why anybody needs more than 4 monitors. Or more than even just 1 monitor.
