    Online Trading Academy

You can say that about reading a book and become a brain surgeon or an auto mechanic, or even a pilot. Nothing can substitute "doing it". But many do-it-yourself-ers pay their tuition in the first few trades just after reading a few books and doing it, thinking that this is easy. Many new...

    Online Trading Academy

I said before in a previous post: OTA's ProTrader course is a basic training on how to drive (how to trade). But it doesn't tell you how to win the Grand Prix (exactly what methodology to use to make money out of the market). Most of the curriculum was okay. But I don't like a few...

    Online Trading Academy

No problem Redneck. Here are the pictures of my trade desk setup. 3 desktops, 2 laptops running TradeStation and StreetSmart Pro for charts and RealTick for Level-2. http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43661&perpage=6&pagenumber=428 Here is a picture of one of my...

    Online Trading Academy

Redneck: I am happy to share what I know and my opinions: Rushtrade's DirectPro (now Tradient) never impressed me with their charting capability. It's too simplistic. The available indicators are very limited and they only allow you to add 2 indicators per price chart. Duh! Every the...

    Online Trading Academy

Unfortunately their policy is that no manual will be given to the repeats. I almost got my head chewed off by Mike McMahon when I took the course the second time asking to have the updated manuals. It's good that they use TradeStation (I use it too). I am very disappointed at TerraNova (I...

    my computer freezes

I use a HP laptop too. Model dv9730us. Bought March 2008. Last month the laptop had random lockups (and disk problems). I could feel that the bottom of the laptop (on my lap, literally) got hotter than usual. I noticed it. Fry's sent it back to HP. It was said they had to replace the...

Laptop battery usage, proportional to apps?

Thank you very much guys! That makes a lot of sense. I never thought of the "type of application" but just the number of applications. I think I will go easy on the File Save when on battery power. :p

Laptop battery usage, proportional to apps?

I don't know enough about computer chip hardware. Here is my observation: I have a HP dv9730us laptop. When I used this laptop without plugging in, I used to be able to work on it for a little bit over 3 hours before the battery is drained. This morning I forgot to plug the laptop in. I...

How many monitors do you use while doing daytrading?

Actually the electricity bill for the additional LCD monitors is not that high. They are quite energy efficient. The old CRTs eat more juice. You know... if the old TV commercials by E-Trade or Ameritrade or whatever-trade would have you believe... to make millions and millions of dollars...

How many monitors do you use while doing daytrading?

17 screens. http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43661&perpage=6&pagenumber=428 I trade only 5 stocks. 1 main screen has all 5 stocks side-by-side so I can trade relative strength between them. 5 monitors, 1 dedicated to each stock: displays the same stock on...

    Pictures of your trading stations

ScreenLocal: Do you find the sun shining in bothering you when you look at the computer screens? I usually don't like looking at computer screen in bright places, especially outdoor.

    Pictures of your trading stations

That's great! I used to do that. I used to have two monitors with 4x4 tiny charts each so that I could monitor 32 stocks. Whenever one of them moves, I would notice. But now I focus on trading only a few. I still have many small charts... but those are charts of the same set of 5 stocks...

Cool! What is that on the right hand side of your monitors? You play the guitar while you are trading?

TradeStation asks for $5,000 for opening account...

    1) I don't do any strategy trading myself. And I don't do back-testing. Can't help you in that area. 2) On your point #3, you should be able to skip one step. That is: request IB to wire the money to TS directly without wiring it to your bank, then your bank to TS. But I don't think...

TradeStation asks for $5,000 for opening account...

I don't understand a couple of things: 1) What is the purpose of having both IB *and* TradeStation? Do you need some features in IB that is not available in TradeStation and vice versa, so you need both of them at the same time? Or you want to hedge your risk over 2 different brokages...

Seperate PC for Trading and Other

LOL! With all these precautions and redundancies, the only remaining single point of failure is YOURSELF! What if you are heavy in a position and the market runs against you, and you have a heart attack? If you fall unconscious in the hospital for a few days, you can end up having big losses...

Are there any Trading Educators that work?

What do you mean by that "+51%"? You want them to show you they have annual performance of over +51%? I have taken trainings from Online Trading Academy and Pristine. Both are popular and established trading training schools. They cover the basics to get someone started. Pristine (TPM1...

Seperate PC for Trading and Other

Definitely maintain different PCs for trading vs everything else if you can afford it. I have multiple PCs and laptops. I restrict the trading computers for "production" use only. Anything put on them must be tested first. I use a "crash-and-burn-and-I-dun-care" laptop to test new...
