7 trillion barrels of oil to be discovered

ahh, but no doubt it would not be an an issue when the time comes to use it.. let the mideast pump themselves dry - the sooner the better. technology always steps up, and I am pretty sure it will step up to shale and sand extraction with ease :) There just hasn't been much incentive to do so...

    High-performance trading architecture.

Again, I agree with your observations... and pimpin' aint fun, but it pays :) I'm just an incorporated independent that occasionaly brings others onto my contracts as well. 1 million gross is a good year for my little operation, but then there's only 1 W2 to pay after the 1099's :)

    High-performance trading architecture.

THAT WAS MY POINT FROM THE START. My original post said that the IT infrastructure requirements are not correlated to the financial size of the institution. Why are you busting my chops - did I just pee in your cheerios or something?

    High-performance trading architecture.

That does not change the fact that: 1) I did just this in 2000 at Bankone 2) I did not ask how much money the bank had. I never said others have not done this before.. nor did I claim it was infinately scalable. As a matter fact, I agree with d*mn near everything you said here. But it has...

    High-performance trading architecture.

Nothing was hidden from me - they had no reason to hide anything. I worked for a Director in IT, spent 8-10hrs a day doing various IT work at their old Columbus Ohio HQ for about 6 months or so. There are plenty of companies that code their messaging vs using out of the box.. why? who the h*ll...

That rate is what I'd expect to pay out to a sub/independent with that skill set - I would not bill them out at that! Plus, I do business in Ohio :) The normal bill rate out here to a client for a J2EE contractor (my area of expertise) is around 85-100/hr, which I would probably pay 60-75/hr on...

Should the OIL companies be subject to a WINDFALL profit tax?

excess profit tax? regulation? I would have hoped folks here would have more sense... "I want to trade the markets, but I'm a socialist and don't believe in market economies or capitalism".

7 trillion barrels of oil to be discovered

Not included in estimates are tar sand and shale oil.. The US has a substantialy larger shale oil reserve then saudi's "known" oil reserves, and same with Canada and thier tar sands.

    High-performance trading architecture.

The size of the fund (in $) would have very little, if any, bearing on the IT infrastructure requirements. I coded the pub/sub messaging broker for Bank One, and never once did I need to ask "how much money does the bank have" :)

    Bot writer?

I've done both. A basic PP bot is pretty easy.. all you have to do is parse the log file :) A student/hobbiest could do it for you. It gets more interesting when you move past pot vs implied odds, and try to profile the opponents more and throw in on-the-fly monte carlo runs, mix up your play...

Tax problem with daytrading futures in Roth IRA?

that was just my terms.. an entity meaning anything you could possibly invest money into. a business partnership, real estate etc.. Let's say you decide to start a hedgefund. You can't invest your IRA funds into it, since you get PAID to run THAT fund. In essence you would be receiving...

What would push this market higher?

    >What would push this market higher? more people wanting to buy then to sell :) beyond that, I personaly don't think it matters much - I just listen to what the market has to tell me :) Take a look at this year on a 10+yr chart - it's quite an un-eventful, sideways market. Not really...

Tax problem with daytrading futures in Roth IRA?

I have looked into this recently as well.. I was able to get more clarification when looking into real estate investing, etc, via a IRA. In these scenerios, they speak of UBI in terms of you buying a rental property via your IRA, yet you try to collect "mamangement fee's" outside of the IRA...

    advice on automated trading tools

If you're looking to have the framework custom coded, you'll want to find programmers familiar with: 1) FIX (they can figure this out on the job though, no biggie) 2) creating interpeted languages, rules engines. #1 is the API, #2 is to let the traders be able to expres their rules in a...

    New to trading

their point is this - you should be well past these sorts of questions before you put your money on the the line. Nobody can tell you where you should put your stops w/o knowing a vast amount of detail on how your trade. Even then, your discpline to follow it will be an even bigger issue...

Blew up 2 accounts: Need input

I say it is very unlikely for anyone to be able to string that sort of return together consistently for several years. the best CTA's don't manage to come even remotely close. I have never known anyone over the past 7 yrs to pull it off - everyone who came close eventually blew up. They were...
