Any studies on who normally wins - option writer versus purchaser?

If you're levered, you cannot infer anything from this table alone. You'd need to know the other characteristics of these strategies.

Florida Man Who Raised $100 Million To Short The VIX Likely Returning To Old Job At Target

I really have a hard time imagining a case where ordinary shareholders can be personally liable for any wrongdoing, beyond their equity being wiped out. Indeed, would it seem fair to you if a pensioner with a passive small stake in a company had to be responsible for something over which they...

What is the symbol for Brazilian nation bond?

Indeed... If you don't hedge the currency risk, you could argue that your 9.5% return would be commensurate with the actual risk you will incur (both in terms of exposure to rates and to the exch rate).

What is the symbol for Brazilian nation bond?

Erm, you are forgetting a most important factor... Specifically, the currency. What currency are you planning to use to buy these bonds?

Could XIV have been shorted on Feb 5?

Again, Fiddy didn't make it big... His VIX calls were a hedge.

LJM Preservation and Growth Fund, collapsed by 82 percent! (WTF?)

Yes, like I said, I dunno about this specific example... Maybe. CTAs approach this differently. I am only speaking from experience with the particular corner of the market that I am somewhat familiar with. I am also not referring to the case where it’s specifically the same strategy, just...

Yeah, whichever way you decide to slice this, you just need to do it right, is all I'm sayin'...

LJM Preservation and Growth Fund, collapsed by 82 percent! (WTF?)

I dunno about this one, but I know that a few larger names in macro space have attempted to launch lower-cost "retail"(ish) vehicles (e.g. Brevan Howard). The liquidity profile of the retail offering is explicitly different, so the strategy is as well. My point was only to suggest that, if I...

LJM Preservation and Growth Fund, collapsed by 82 percent! (WTF?)

I think it very much depends, but yeah, it's not likely to be the special "secret sauce" stuff. I mean it's only logical, right?

LJM Preservation and Growth Fund, collapsed by 82 percent! (WTF?)

Stranger things have happened in this industry...

LJM Preservation and Growth Fund, collapsed by 82 percent! (WTF?)

Does anyone have any idea what happened to their Aggressive Strategy? It's supposed to be an even more levered version...

    Failures in greeks computation

To echo what the others have said... Most of the time the issues described occur with ITM options and with really really far out OTM ones. The other thing to check is whether you're computing the fwd correctly.

Why did banks cut back on lending after QE?

It's rather eloquently explained by @s0mmi (although I ain't too sure abt the "semen" bit). It's natural, for a whole variety of reasons, for both the supply of and demand for credit to diminish after a pretty significant financial crisis. Yes, of course QE was an attempt to offset this, but...

Why did banks cut back on lending after QE?

The answer to your question has nothing to do with the repo mkt... It's all rather simple.

    Regulation is the main reason...

Tulip mania: the classic story of a Dutch financial bubble is mostly wrong

I am happy to have educated you, but let me also tell you that it's only the start of the journey... As @Sig mentioned, if you go to pretty much any tropical resort, your USD will be most welcome. Anywhere in the Caribbean, Mauritius, Maldives, you name it, they all happy for you to pay in...

Tulip mania: the classic story of a Dutch financial bubble is mostly wrong

Indeed, I think it would be very wise to close this discussion... You clearly have never actually gone anywhere in the third world if you say that USD isn't legal tender outside the US. That's just a dumb thing to say, I'm sorry.

Tulip mania: the classic story of a Dutch financial bubble is mostly wrong

Huh? I can't buy anything with dollars in the EU? Really? Outside of the EU, how many countries in the world have their currencies explicitly or implicitly pegged to the "useless fiat dollar"? Not to bitcoin, funnily enough...
