'Quant' hedge funds headed for worst month since Aug 2007

The comments on this thread are revealing. When the masses are convinced that trend following has "stopped working" it is usually on the verge of huge profits. Wait and see..

    Black Monday

Interesting you think that. Black Monday in 1987 was triggered by absolutely no event whatsoever. It just happened.

    AAPL: Buying the Dips!

Can someone please explain how it's a good business to have lots of different products with slightly different names that all do pretty much the same thing? Exactly how long can a mania last?

    AAPL: Buying the Dips!

Sure, but this only works temporarily. 8 years of a bull market has convinced everyone it will work forever. What criterion would you use to stop doing this? The first lower high?

    AAPL: Buying the Dips!

Sorry, but this is pure BS. You seem to be saying that observing a single stock's market price over an 8 year period - during which it was in a bull market - is some sort of back test. In fact the belief that something that has been going up in the recent past will continue to go up...

Scientist turning Trader yeah I'd like to be a Millionaire....someday

The argument that someone has a good trading strategy because he is "rich" is specious. I was suggesting the names of people who didn't know what they were doing but still ended up with lots of $

Scientist turning Trader yeah I'd like to be a Millionaire....someday

You can have a lousy trading strategy that eventually blows up but still be rich due to all the performance fees you have accumulated whilst the strategy was "working". If you're starting out I suggest a good strategy rather than trying the above.

Dick Fuld, Jimmy Caine et al remain centi-millionaires. Your point being..?

    Ready to short boys?

Well I believe in creative destruction. This coming crash will sort out a lot of things that QEx is just making worse.

    Ready to short boys?

Hope you're right, Range. I just have a superstitious feeling that the more we hold our breath for it the more we jinx it and it just won't happen.. If the gods are really smiling then it will happen BEFORE the election and wipe the smile off Obama's face..

This is a manipulated bull market, how long can it last?

For all of you that are bullish and insist on buying the dips, how much of this is "recency bias", i.e. anchoring to the recent past? There is no doubt that Apple has done stunningly recently (last few years) but we are talking about the FUTURE..

QE3 - What if it's already priced in?

Let's not forget that Obama has always made a virtue of his own 'cosmopolitan' background and back in 2008 was pretty much promising that that would lead to peace in the middle east. Which it didn't, for some puzzling reason..

QE3 - What if it's already priced in?

Right, for constantly putting his foot in his mouth. Honestly, he should be trouncing a useless socialist con merchant like Obummer who has presided over a 50% increase in unemployment. Since the US was founded no president has won a second term if unemployment significantly increased in his...

    Ready to short boys?

The Fed's logic is impeccable. Let's do unlimited amounts for a third time of what completely failed to work the first two times. Right. Some people insist on believing the improbable. Well I guess that's why we have religion. And fundamental analysis :)

Why is this market so dead? Have you all gone broke?

Note to permabulls: low volume near all time highs over summer gives you a pretty good idea what's going to happen in October.

This is a manipulated bull market, how long can it last?

Right, 'cos your welfare checks will be safe so you can keep funding that sub $1K account :D

We will be like the markets from 1969-1982

That's the most dangerous thing to do. You are selling tail risk when volatility is low.
