    Problems Upgrading to TWS 851

Jimrockford: Thank you for taking the time for your reply. I agree with your thoughts about upgrading TWS. I have been using IB since Feb 2000. I have experienced a long and at times arduous evolution of IB's software upgrades over the years. The upgrades at times come with glitches that...

IB Forcing Upgrade to new TWS 851

OldTrader, after upgrading to 851, I click File>Manage Workspace, and get the same box as you show in your attachment; However, there is no "pre-upgrade workspace" as a possible choice. All I see is "default Workspace".

    Problems Upgrading to TWS 851

I am using TWS version 831.4 which will no longer be supported after September 16, 2005. I have been unable to upgrade to TWS version 851 without losing all of my pages and settings (what I wind up with is the default workspace and no option to go back to my pre-upgrade workspace). I have tried...

IB Forcing Upgrade to new TWS 851

There is no such option to select under "File/Manage workspace" in TWS 851. I hope you have a method.

IB Forcing Upgrade to new TWS 851

No. Where do I find this option? I did not see this option or instructions for this option. I cloned my hard drive prior to doing the upgrade; So, I can go back and do the upgrade again.

IB Forcing Upgrade to new TWS 851

I just finished doing the upgrade. It was a disaster. All of my settings, pages, and symbols were wiped clean. Nothing left as if it was my first installation. I was upgrading from version 831.4.

How do you backup your system?

Why not put all of your HDs in removable bays? That is what I did years ago. You can then swap, copy, and store HDs on the shelf as needed.

How do you backup your system?

I like your method (this is close to what I do). I use removable HD bays to make it fast to plug in the HDs for drive cloning and drive swapping.

Charting Software for Entering my Own Data Points

I am looking for charting software into which I can enter my own end of day data points. I do not need data download or import ability (I use RealTick for that). I had such a charting program back in the MS DOS days. I would appreciate any suggestions. Catoosa

How do you backup your system?

The power supply voltages I would be looking for to be within 5% of nominal are the 3.3V, 5V, and 12V. If these voltages are out of spec in the BIOS settings, I would change the PS. If I had voltage spikes in any of those voltages that were much beyond the 5% from the nominal, I would be...

How do you backup your system?

No problem with your PS voltages. Those voltages are great. I do not think I have ever had a PS with all voltages within 2% of the nominal voltages. PC parts manufactures build their parts to function properly as a minimum within the plus or minus 5% voltage ranges. You can not tell how long...

How do you backup your system?

A backup power supply would be nice but expensive to properly setup. I think that would require starting with a server case setup for dual power supplies. I would suggest looking in the BIOS settings to see if all of the power supply voltages are within 5% of their nominal. If any voltages...

How do you backup your system?

I had a 12V bus on a power supply that was out of spec more than the 5% allowable. The result was a slow file corruption as if I had picked up a boot sector virus. took me six months to find out what was causing my HD failures due to the file corruption. This did not destroy the drives but the...

Any other $1 <100 shares brokers besides IB?

Looking at all of MB Trading's fees that are in addition to the penny a share, I think IB for sure has the better deal for stocks. IB's all included price keeps my accounting simple. AshanD, I like your plan for getting started with your education in stock trading (go slow and see what...

    Need simple charting recommendations

Possibly ensignsoftware.com combined with IB's data for $40 per month. I tried it but decided to stay with RealTick and pay the $250 per month.

Etrade makes offer to buy Ameritrade

This current market reminds me of the market following the bubble burst of 1973/74. A whole new generation of young unknowing people will have to grow up to provide the uninformed dumb money. This could be a long wait.

    Realtick 8.1 Charting problem

I have never had such a problem. I have about 30 RealTick windows spread out over eight monitors. I am using RT 8.0.

Looking for another broker after Freetrade closes.

I suspect that a few months from now, Ameritrade will combine the Izone accounts and regular Ameritrade accounts and come up with a commission schedule that is some where between what is now Izone and Ameritrade.
