Elite Day Trader Paul Phillips Bruised By Market

Damn. Just noticed that. Good call. Makes sense that a nonsensical story is from some nonsensical site.

Elite Day Trader Paul Phillips Bruised By Market

The OP always likes to take shots at day traders. It's his MO. In the future he should probably get articles though that aren't idiotic.

Elite Day Trader Paul Phillips Bruised By Market

I hear ya on that. My group of friends that trade has become a very small group over the years.

Elite Day Trader Paul Phillips Bruised By Market

Maybe start talking to some real traders.

Elite Day Trader Paul Phillips Bruised By Market

Another thing is that volatility in the energy markets actually decreased in August from July so to imply that volatility did in this guy in is 100% false. Where do they get these guys who write about trading? Surprised this was in Bloomberg. One of the dumbest articles I have seen in a while.

Elite Day Trader Paul Phillips Bruised By Market

Strange article in many ways. First, he doesn't sound like a day trader : “I was ready to ride it all the way back to the top again,” said Mr. Phillips Day traders don't normally think like this. As oil rose again, Mr. Phillips bet the Brent benchmark price would go all the way back up to...

I have bought Al Brooks' Trading Course

Thanks. Traders have to. When I first started trading there were many strategies/edges that worked, but you had to know when it stopped working. It could work for 6 months, 6 years......but the traders who could identify that something major had changed would quickly try and make adjustments...

I have bought Al Brooks' Trading Course

Yep. Years ago it was The Specialist........then Floor traders/brokers in the futures pits......now it's Algos and HFTs. People sometimes blame others for their failure or not adjusting to what they are dealing with.

I have bought Al Brooks' Trading Course

You are welcome. Glad you liked what was written. As far as what exactly I look for in a set up or examples on a chart ? I posted on Surf's thread my whole feeling on that. I don't share what exactly I do on here. I'm not trying to sound like some stuck up trader or come across with an ego, but...

I have bought Al Brooks' Trading Course

This is great advice. Find one where you have the most confidence and have back tested it to an extent and the results are very good. Make sure the sample size is large enough to validate the results. Then trade in other markets that tested well. Trade small initially in case adjustments need to...

    Big Slippage on ES

Yes. If you want to avoid higher volatility each day don't trade the first 5 min or so of the cash open (9:30 a.m. edt) and close (4:00 p.m. edt). Also do not trade when major economic releases come out as a lot of participants back away and liquidity dries up/markets thin out. This you will...

    Big Slippage on ES

There probably is some technical way to, that I'm not sure. I use TT through AMP's TTNet connection. It NEVER slows down. I have used Esignal forever and their feeds are for the most part are very reliable. During the whole Aug 24th debacle, my Esignal was actually behind by maybe 5-10 seconds...

    Big Slippage on ES

While ES is definitely one of the most liquid futures contracts out there, you have to notice the huge surge in volatility when the OP mentioned his fills. We have gone from days of the vix down near 12 to 52 or so at one point. In a matter of days. The average range of the ES has gone from 18...

    FOMC Thursday?

Yes, I stay out of ZB on NFP day, and tread lightly in the ES. My feeling is why trade something when your edge is greatly reduced. To me NFP day can cause that.

    FOMC Thursday?

I totally agree. There are give or take 250 or so days a year to trade. Taking one day off shouldn't break anyone's year. I trade Ag futures as well as ES and ZB. Even though the Ags shouldn't be affected a ton by The FOMC, I will be flat by noon in those. I won't even bother with ES or ZB that...

Who or What is your Worse Brokerage Story? Are there Brokerages You Won't Go Near?

So the guy thinks Florida is such a bad place, but he lives here. Priceless. Thanks for helping validate my last post as saying your friend is talking out of his ass. He has had a problem with a bank down here, ergo.....the whole state is bad and everyone down here. I hope Paul Tudor Jones...

Who or What is your Worse Brokerage Story? Are there Brokerages You Won't Go Near?

This post is so misinformed and generally bullshit. If your friend feels that Florida is no good then he'd better stop doing business with people in NY as a good part of the population in Florida is from that area. Are their scams down here ? Sure. But to be honest any of the stories I have...

I have bought Al Brooks' Trading Course

Great point. To people who never traded through 2008's insanity or before this recent volatility could wipe them out. If you have never traded ES with 80+ point intra-day ranges then you could get hurt, especially if you are stubborn. Aug 24th could have been a doozy for some. I imagine it was.

I have bought Al Brooks' Trading Course

They aren't scalpers so the whole HFT really has no impact on them. Most of them are day traders who adapted to the whole HFT thing. As far as time frames...some guys hold things for a few minutes, some guys a few hours. With a lot of traders out there when volatility kicks in, trading gets a...

I have bought Al Brooks' Trading Course

When it gets volatile like this most guys are too busy during the day to post. It becomes a night and weekend thing. People with winning strategies usually keep quiet for the most part. It's usually the guys struggling who post 15 times a day. As far as how guys are doing now, the handful of...
