When it comes to a leveraged instrument like TQQQ, the worst is a slow grind of chopping up and down. Under persistent trends, the returns will be magnified in both directions ie >3X gains in a continuous uptrend, >3X losses in a continuous downtrend. Very simple math that seemingly very few...

Cdn market is so narrow, you can pretty much replicate it with 5-7 individual stocks. 2-3 banks, a pipeline, a telco, a railroad. And maybe the rare real growth story like SHOP or CSU boom done.

Read the details guys. He was trading option spreads, that negative balance wasn't even real. Just a transient display item that would have been offset when they closed his other leg. He probably had a small loss, if any at all. Just a tragic case all around, wow.

Agree. Shameful how crappy all the bank trading platforms are - for stocks, nevermind options! They're like faulty geocities websites from the 90's. And if you have a corp account many insist on sending you paper statements for taxes etc. (no PDF). Thank god for IB.

Serious question, why are your positions so tiny as to be literally meaningless? I mean TVIX could go to 1000 again and you'd have no real benefit.

TVIX is almost always a great short.

Wow I use IB all the time for options (long and short, on many instruments) and never had this sort of issue.

Realistically, it will probably be a lot higher than that although the ride won't be without bumps.

The one thing I would say, the more people think like this - the more likely it will keep going i.e. if everyone expects a crash, it will def surge far higher.

I agree it has been an impressive run (both directions!). But I doubt Joe Six Pack beat the pros. Most civilians I know either did nothing (smart) or, more likely, sold out at the bottom and are now praying for another drop that might never come.

Hard to believe anyone still falls for these rackets. I guess the old saying holds true...
