Warning to Hedge Fund Manager Wannabe's

I believe I read something (maybe in "Market Wizards"?) where he distributed some of the profits from his fund each year to investors as a risk control measure. Even if it wasn't him that I'm thinking about, it's not a bad thing to do if you're a hedge fund manager.

Warning to Hedge Fund Manager Wannabe's

Definitely some good advice. While not a hedge fund manager, I do manage other people's money and use some strategies more similar to those of hedge fund managers than conventional asset allocators. Conventional asset allocators have a much easier job -- if their clients lose money, they...

    How many trend followers here?

For me personally, I can't sit in front of my computer to the extent needed to be a daytrader - my personality just doesn't fit with the demands.

    College Student Question

or wanting to become a trader right away, but I also think if I were in your situation, I would try a few other things and do a little trading on the side (if you're not working for a financial-oriented firm, etc.) rather than go straight to a prop firm. Who knows, someday you might want to...

Does anyone else pay Professional NYSE Exchange Fees?

I understand your point, but I'm an Investment Adviser Rep of my wholly-owned corporation which is an Investment Adviser. I don't think any amount of creative thought helps me avoid the professional status. The point of my post is to call attention to the excessive fees being charged to...

    Corn and Oil

Interesting stuff. I think I did hear a report that production is declining. The other side of the argument is the Paul Zane Pilzer (sp?) concept that technology often comes into play at some point so that traditional economic analysis of a commodity such as oil is invalid. For example...

Bounce in Gold this week now over?

With Gold / XAU, I view the trends like this: Short-term: Up Long-term: Up Intermediate-term: ???? I'm still leaving open the possibility that the XAU may drop down closer to the 87 level. I did nibble a bit in the 93 level last week, though.

Does anyone else pay Professional NYSE Exchange Fees?

It really ticks me off that my NYSE exchange fees, which are much higher than either Nasdaq or AMEX, may be paying Grasso's compensation package. With the shake-up at the NYSE, is there anything we can do to get these fees down to a more reasonable level?

Would you sell your proprietary strategies?

What I find disturbing is that some of these services promote various proprietary set-ups with sexy names which are just as easily seen using some simple indicators.

Would you sell your proprietary strategies?

I find so many people sell their services because so many people are searching for the holy grail. But many of these services are average, at best.

Would you sell your proprietary strategies?

I'm often amazed by how many trading services there are. If you have/had proprietary strategies, would you sell them?

Bounce in Gold this week now over?

Gold / XAU started to roll over at the end of the day giving up some of the gains. We'll see what happens.

Bounce in Gold this week now over?

On second thought, I think this is a decent bounce but all of my other indicators are suggesting that there's still more of a correction left. We'll see. Tough call here.

Bounce in Gold this week now over?

Seemed to find support at the lows from 1/15 and moving on up. Maybe the correction is over now.
