    NYC Prop Firms

You speak the truth! In my opinion, one of the keys to trading is being smart enough to know that you're really not that smart when it comes to the market. With pure quant trading, it may be beneficial to be a genius. With discretionary trading, it's probably better to be a notch below that!

    Job with Morgan Stanley???

Wealth Advisor to trader? Very little chance of this happening. I actually interviewed with someone at a similar firm -- she told me I was overqualified and would be bored. Remember, the focus there is gathering assets.

2006 will be a nice year for stocks.

In light of the fact that you posted this under the TA forum, why don't you share your analysis?

    Which securities exam to take?

I'm not sure whether Series 65 (Investment Adviser) Exam will make you more attractive if you're going to be working for a broker. Series 65 might help if you're looking to work for a Registered Investment Adviser firm. Basically, a Registered Investment Adviser firm is selling its services...

Selling it's own invented trading system = always a scam?!

A few weeks ago if you went on ebay and punched in MetaStock, the Crisp swing trading system as a MetaStock plug-in was available for a few bucks.

    Van Tharp Paradox....

Samson -- Hopefully you know I'm not trying to get on your case or pick a fight here. I just think there might be some value to NLP. In any event, your input is appreciated!

    Van Tharp Paradox....

Samson -- you're not very opinionated, are you? :-) I'm not sure I would just label NLP as nonsense. In its basic form, NLP deals with associations in your brain and what motivates you to do one thing or another. If you change those associations, you can change your behavior. I think...

    Van Tharp Paradox....

"Conventional Wisdom" always says to wait for confirmation. But ... To be better than the crowd, you can't think like the crowd. Accordingly, I agree with Basso and basically that's how I trade as well. Except in cases where I think the market is breaking out for a major move in which case...

    Who's the Better Trader?

I was thinking of Schindler when I was reading this thread! The one thing that I will say about Schindler is he definitely has some good traits if he can trade thru the drawdowns that he has encountered.

    Money Mangers Marketing

I think you may be comparing apples to oranages. 1) You're making the assumption that in both cases you're trading futures/commodities -- some hedge funds may not engage in that type of trading, in which case the whole CTA, CPO thing isn't applicable. 2) Are we talking about running a...

    Money Mangers Marketing

Regarding raising money, if you're in a major city, you really need to think about integrating yourself into the community thru things such as United Way or other community organizations. You'll meet a lot of people -- a lot of people with money.

    i'm confused

All this talk about how bad things are. Well, with the exception of a good run in the 1920's, 80's and 90's when things seemed a lot better, most of the history of this world has been the history of a lot of crap going on. Heck, watch the movie Braveheart and you'll see how crappy things were...

Best indicators to guess tops/bottoms; determine overbought/oversold areas

In my mind, this assumes everyone is applying the same indicators and analysis -- which is why those hard core fundamental types say TA doesn't work. TA is just a tool -- which depends on the skill of the person using that tool.

    resumption of the bull market?

Thanks for your input, Tony. I wouldn't be surprised to see just about everything rise next week -- stocks, bonds and precious metals. I think a short-term bottom in bonds is near.

    Is it time...

Interesting about the 2 separate cards. 4 years ago about this time, I bought my current system -- a Dell desktop and separately bought an Appian Rushmore card (that supports 4 digital monitors). I was able to get everything running pretty quickly. At that time, Nvdia had just come out with...

CFA designation - What's it good for?

The CFA seems to be a prerequisite to being considered for a lot of investment management positions. In my opinion, the primary value of the CFA is the perception of the designation by others. If you're planning on going into investment management, I believe it carries more weight than an MBA...

CRB Index ... bull market over?

My novice opinion is that we might be in wave 4 and big wave 5 (which is typically the biggest in commodities) is yet to come. Still, I think this wave 4 may be corrective enough to get people thinking that the bull market in commodities is over.
