    Managed accounts

Check your state rules/regulations but if I recall correctly, there is a way to charge performance fees for CERTAIN "accredited investor" types with portfolios in excess of a certain size, even without starting a hedge fund, etc. At least that's what I remember when studying for the Series 65...

What to tell my neighbors about my trading career.

I'm not sure why this is such a big deal. Tell them that you have your own investment firm and leave it at that.

    Managed accounts

Good luck with everything. Once you go beyond the 5 accounts, you'll need to register with the State and then the compliance nightmare begins. In Ohio, the State audits state-based advisers every 2 years! What you will want to make sure of is that you're doing a good job of evaluating the...

Series 3 Exam (Natl Commodity Futures Exam)

Aaron: I appreciate your input -- I check in on your fund performance every now and then. Keep up the good work! I avoided the CFA program and instead did the CMT. I still "toy" every now and then with the CFA because it's so highly valued in the investment community but I think the...

    Tired of lack of confidence

Let me try to be a voice of reason here: 1) It seems like you have no idea of your trading personality and style. You're trying to trade like everyone else wants you to and not developing your own strategies and style. My belief is that if you want to be successful at trading, you have to...

    Unconventional and Unique Strategies

On the Edwards & Maggee note, I'm well-versed in conventional TA. One of the issues I have, though, is if anything in life is "conventional" or "accepted" then it is often flawed or wrong. Part of the reason I started this thread is that it's very difficult to talk about how I trade because...

    Tricky & Confusing Environment

I guess the big question is what markets are you trading? I also would suggest that your "risks" below are only risks from YOUR perspective. I believe the only way to "interpret" those risks and their effect on the markets is thru various technical means -- otherwise, you are only "guessing"...

    Unconventional and Unique Strategies

Just wondering how many people out there feel that they can see things going on in the market that others can't. I'm not talking about just being a good trader -- I'm talking about having unique set-ups, criteria, etc. as well as instincts that you don't read about in a TA book. Also, for...

You can't generate positive alpha without a PhD.

Does Steven A. Cohen have a PhD? This was just a stupid thread to begin with and the thread creator knows it.

    CFA? Im considering taking

While the CFA will make you more marketable, just don't expect the CFA to help your trading.

NDX had put in an interim top

Much of my cycle-oriented work had a turning point between Oct. 12-16. Market strength has been pretty good, though, so not sure how much of a pullback we can expect.

Raising Money for a Hedge Fund

Eagle -- are you Bogle in disguise? Let's look at the drawdown on the S&P 500 in 2000-2002. There are many hedge funds out there that deliver historic returns similar to that of the S&P 500 with much less volatility. Granted, the hedge fund indexes show that the hedge funds, as a whole...

Looking for a patent attorney in NJ/NY City area

Hey -- because Patent & Trademark law is federal in nature, you don't necessarily have to use someone in the NY/NJ area and pay the excess legal fees. I know of a boutique firm in the Midwest, if interested, PM me and I'll send you their web site.

    And today was Yom Kippur.

    October 2nd 2006, Black Monday?

I wouldn't say today's move is meaningless. Markets don't have to decline on high volume -- I think that doing some backtesting on that would prove that out. That being said, I think a high volume sell-off raises the likelihood of a fast and nasty decline.
