How to Distinguish between trending and Choppy Days

Great though huge, huge question. I have been practicing psychotherapy for 10+ years and trading for a good chunk of the last 5 years. I am just beginning to have enough psychological distance from myself trading to begin to observe... So my thoughts are somewhat limited thus far- here are a...

How to Distinguish between trending and Choppy Days

Harry, I was not insulting you at all. I was simply agreeing with your comment about it being good to make people think. BTW, I am a practicing psychoanalytic therapist and know plenty about Lacan- well as much as one can discern from reading the english. Personally I think he was a...

How to Distinguish between trending and Choppy Days

Reminds me of another opaque French theorist. The psychoanalyst Jacque Lacan made sure he was not clear as the subject of his work- the unconscious- could not be known by definition. He repeatedly dissolved schools set up to teach his method b/c if it became too clear, the real meaning would...

    Thank you ISE

No. CBOE will fight to keep its exclusive license with all their resources. I would be very surprised to see spx or oex options trading anywhere else soon.

    Thank you ISE

Well Vega, It appears that not too many here have learned to appreciate the profit opportunity uniquely available in an inefficient option market. too bad..... :D

    tampa's "short skirt" trades...

Hi Tampa, My original and still evening career is as a psychotherapist. While I can't claim to have any particular insight into your difficulties, I can assure you that what you write above is not fully true. We all have an unconscious, which by definition, is not fully knowable. It is...

    "Bowling for Columbine"

Good question and true that it complicates Moore's societal commentary. My sense is that since he points out how the NRA was founded at the same time as the KKK and one of the first acts the NRA supported was banning black people from owning guns, that Moore connects much of the pro-gun lobby...

    "Bowling for Columbine"

It is a great movie. Enjoy. I'm curious if anyone who actually saw the movie picked up that Moore's thesis was that Americans' chronic fear of the "other" and resultant aggression is at the root of the excessive violence, not guns per se.

    "Bowling for Columbine"

I just watched it too. It was a powerful movie I thought. Most here apparently did not see the movie or watch it closely. I thought his cartoon sequence of the white Americans with their chattering teeth was genius and dead on accurate and the core of the movie. Look at how the esteemed...

    What's the catch?

One problem is that by the time price hits 1050 you could be way under water due to premium rising as the price gets closer to strike. Of course this varies in terms of time till expiration etc, but premium on a near the money spx call could be exploding before you can adequately hedge.

"This is the worst case of insider trading ever."

Those doubting the options #s are starting to sound downright conspiratorial yourselves. Even after article after article is cited, the info is still suspect b/c there may be a shared sources and this one source may be motivated by something, right? Obviously, we should look to anti-US...

"This is the worst case of insider trading ever."

I think this is the easiest question. The authors or Pax-Americana and other current occupants of the White House had already drafted plans for large scale war including invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq before 9/11. They were just waiting for the spark.....

"This is the worst case of insider trading ever."

Yes it was a downtrend. But, that part of the article where it said only United and American had heavy put buying while Delta didn't is pretty noteworthy imo.
