IB Hong Kong based accounts transferred to newly formed IB HK

For the record, I still like IB and will maintain an account. I just don't like the effect of being moved to an inferior Australian version.

IB Hong Kong based accounts transferred to newly formed IB HK

If you guys don't like it change to another broker. IB moved all Australian residents accounts to IB Australia. Rules for foreign currency handling became unacceptable for many presumably to easily comply with new restrictions and service declined. Fortunately other companies have no local...

    Does trendline work?

The first two posts of this thread seem to declare the thread a joke. Gloria says: Just draw some straight lines on chart and you will win money. Does that make any sense? Can you prove it works or it is a tale? MK says: I say no, especially in the modern algo-dominated markets. The burden...

Why isn't IB up here defending themselves?

It's Java. All the apps I use that suck on memory use and startup are java (tws, pycharm, jdownloader). I still use them but ... I was primarily an IB customer for 10+ years and do wish they'd fix the data but the move to IB Australia bought reduced function and service so now I'm an AMP/CQG...

Running IB Gateway remotely and Workstation locally

Can you reverse your logic? Maintain a file on the remote system. Normally empty or absent. When you need local access your process first stores you local ip & port in the remote file. Then you start tws. Remote tunnels to your tws using that file if its gateway dies & file exists. When...

    Sierra Charts

Here's an update to fix the incompatibilities. Its not pretty code, just a fixed version of the old one: /*==========================================================================*/ SCSFExport FVE(SCStudyInterfaceRef sc) { if (sc.SetDefaults) { sc.GraphName="Finite Volume...

    R and Python Unite!

FWIW ... Python is based primarily on C not C++. Where extra speed is required modules are usually written in C or Cython including modules like Numpy & Pandas. (Not a fan of R but do like Python, C, and Nim :))

    Markets are not Random

Yes. I like that definition tomorton. I would add that a higher time-frame trend is a higher time-frame trend if it results in the trades taken using my trading trend having higher expectancy. And, closing when the market closes, I sleep well every night.

Interactive Brokers and Linux on a Chromebook

The choice of gentoo and arch is masochistic if you're not into bleeding edge / hard to do. Mint or Ubuntu would be better for a trading machine . Should be boring and stable even on a chromebook. TWS will be fine on Linux but why not try running it browser based on the chromebook ?

    What languages are programmers learning?

I can't see C and C++ disappearing from the fast and system areas any time soon. Or Java or JavaScript from their areas. C for me. Functional languages still seem academic and specialist. Go for its space seems to be rising and Rust might ultimately replace C++ and maybe C with the extra...

Any successful intraday Dax traders here?

Yes, @4pipsSake. Over in Oz. I use Sierra Chart - I used to use Ninja many years back but didn't like one of Ray's upgrades and switched. I always found Nikkei to be a bit low volatility. STW less so and HSI moves nicely. KOSPI never really spoke to me either - I think it needs a different...

Any successful intraday Dax traders here?

@4pipsSake, I trade from the Gold Coast of West NZ and could never cope with the late stuff - teenagers might not have helped . My baby is HSI but HHI, STW, Nikkei, Kospi and some fx pairs could all give you profit while the sun shines. Try Asia - it's the market for the 21st century :-)

[Buying a NEW laptop] May I use Linux for trading?

I have traded on Linux since W8 came out - currently Mint because it's so easy to set up and use but I've used many debian derivatives as I pursued a favourite. I run IB TWS as my broker interface and Sierra Chart supported by Wine for charting and order management. My trading is discretionary...

Trading using with candlesticks only and nothing else

I enjoyed Bob's second book although as with everything it attracted some critics. Some claim he's cherry picking but I didn't find that. I struggle with Al's books because he's so wordy but found some gems. You might also consider Lance Beggs. His first course is a good multi-timeframe...

Can you export data from Sierra to Ninja? (CLICK HERE IF YOU HAVE)

SierraChart and Ninja will both be able to read/write to CSV format. You may need to reformat some columns but you could do that with excel or python.

Altucher Tells The Truth About the Market

Hi Surf, It's good to see that you're still here getting your satisfaction by railing against the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. Perhaps you are a trend all by yourself? Maybe if you'd just accepted that we were all right, you'd have been trading profitably by now.

TradersStudio Nominated for TraderPlanet Best Trading Software

The software category doesn't include Sierra Chart and the brokers don't include the one with more trader's than any other, Interactive Brokers. Enough said.
