Generally, the list of annual additions and deletions is publicly announced via a press release in the early part of December. Replacements are made effective after the close of trading on the third Friday in December. Moreover, if at any time during the year an Index Security is no longer...

It could be a Lundy Monday.....

Notice that the % for getting back to 5k within next 5 years has jumped up today. Do people feel more positive when the market is going up rather than down even for a long term view?

    Question about index arbitrage strategy

Or better still sell volatility when it hits an extreme high. IV seems to collapse much quicker than it rises. Anyway, either strategy is too much for my weak stomach.

    Successful Trading

Don't Panic Over Five-Year Low By James Carlisle (TMFJimmyC) July 4, 2002 Unless you've been in the Big Brother house, you'll know by now that when the stock market opened this morning, the FTSE 100 was at the lowest it's been for five years. The media makes a meal of this sort of...

A stock can only go down 100% but it can go up 1,000s%. Also, stocks are valued on forward looking basis so earnings expectations are extraploted. At the moment they are still pricing in negative earnings (or vastly reduced) over time. If that reverses and the future yield goes back the other...

    Nasdaq 5k

Right, that was the point I was aiming at although I didn't get it across too well. Let's say that some events occured that made oil double in price. Stocks in all of the alternative fuel cell co's would rocket and then the hype would start. Some of them would get worked into the NDX and before...

    Superstition, Luck and Vodoo

Many observers have noted that man is not equipped to deal with the pace of his own development. We are all trained and conditioned not to resort to the base instincts that lurk inside all of us. Often, what is evil is dependant on where you stand. Attacker or defender; hungry or well fed; a...

You are right and a point that I've pondered is that those companies that never rise from the ashes again will ultimatley be replaced by something new. This, in theory would keep a technology index propped up. We are no where near the panic and banking crisis that previous bear markets have...

    Question about index arbitrage strategy

I don't see how this is profitable in relation to the risk. Assuming that an edge can be gained I guess it would be lost in the spead of the OEX options. Besides, of all the options there are the OEX are the most closely watched and priced. I traded those suckers for 2 years and I could never...

    Superstition, Luck and Vodoo

this thread is getting so mind bendingly (made up word) academic that it is way beyond me. I feel that I cannot make any worthy contribution......wait...... To have faith you must have........ Nope, lost it. Good job I have a big dick and heaps of money.:D

Who is the new (trading) millionare?

Everyone I ever meet who trades penny stocks swears that they make huge kachingo's. Makes me wonder why some of the big hedge funds don't move into it.

Well I think we safely say that 20-30 years is as good as never for most of us. I haven't worked out the compounded return over that time but it's not attractive. However, on the flip side we look at the Naz as what it is now but that is assuming that there will not be new...

I wasn't so much thinking of this from a technical point of view, rather a macro opinion poll of the state of the worlds biggest tech market. Anyway, I'm not really sure that a weekly high clears the way for new highs in the Nas. Cheers

    and your point is?

Inspired by Lundy's thread I got to thinking. We all know the Nasdog is in the sewer but is technology dead? Is the economy doomed? Will we ever see the ATH in our life time? If you bought 1k QQQ today how long, if ever, for them to hit 120 again. The floor is open.......

Who is the new (trading) millionare?

I wouldn't read too much into this because with shorts covering and option and Leaps getting squared up that could explain the buying strength. I can't imagine that anyone is really investing. Maybe some are taking a long shot gamble but I would personally rather buy a lottery ticket. Cheers

I'll bet the ranch too, the markets are closed so there aint going to be any gaps closed.:D

What is the average age of a trader?

I would expect that most people trading in an office are younger. Most of the '2nd career' folks are probably more likely to trade their own account using personal money from home. Pure guesswork not based on anything other than......well guesswork.
