By pace of the tape by watching the speed of the trades coming through to order book. I can see this with Renko charts, the quicker the bars plot the faster the market trading rate is.

I prefer directional trading if I can follow a short term trend and the trade speed is not slow. If the market is slow I don't trade it.

Three trades in NG today, 2 good and one loser. NG was active today with so many set ups.

I missed most of intital selling in crude today. Later I took two short trades when pace of tape was still good. I prefer trades in crude when there is good trade speed.

I take most trades confirmed. That day in CL I wanted to get short and I took non-confirmed trade, but had lower pivot highs prior to entry.

Great! I never hold overnight, only intraday short term trend following for me. I do well in the CL now that I trade a very simple method and following trends made a boost in my monthly p&l. I try to find 3 to 4 good trades a day in CL with 2.5 to 1 or 3 to 1 r:r per trade.

Took a while today before I found a trade into CL downtrend after I closed other trades in euro. Two trades in CL with short trade to first profit and second trade was a scratch for a few ticks positive.

Your thinking is too trapped in a box. I have been making money off the US Dollar devaluation. I focus on and trade SI and CL long frequently and those trades have had massive opportunities for many years. They just keep working.

Exactly, and DOM trance trading is a dead end road for long term profitability.
