Vertical: Got filled at 5 for 5pt spread at expiration?

It's possible. One time I got an excellent fill on unwinding a covered call. I was long 400 stock, short 4 20 strike calls. I got filled at a net credit of $20.05, I couldn't believe it, I put in the order for a net credit of $19.99. So yeah, getting filled at theoretical value, or...

    Negotiate for more trading privilege?

ssmenger, all the reasonable brokers let you trade cash-covered puts in IRAs, or anything (like spreads) with DEFINED RISK. Some places are just unreasonable, that's all.

    beware of IB's cancellation fees

When i saw the $1+ cancellation fees, the first thing that popped into my mind was that it was a scheme to keep the spreads wide -- to kill anybody who tries to make a market on their own.

they do pay interest on top of the inflation rate, but it's like .75% or so. So it's hardly anything.

    estimated slippage in percentage terms

It varies widely, it could be 0% with price improvement, or up to 2% if the market maker / specialist cheats ya big time.

    Negotiate for more trading privilege?

Brokers are rarely able to collect from people who blow their accounts out due to huge up/down gap. Usually if someone's stupid enough to do that to themself, they don't have the money to pay back any further losses. Every broker has bad receivables due to idiots on margin. That's why the...

AMD Lost 400 Million in Q1: Only Has 1.2 Billion In Cash Reserves

Fact is, INTC has been profitable, and even pays a dividend every year, AMD hasn't ever made money for it's shareholders, ever. Even though INTC lost some of their bottom line, they STILL come in-line with earnings, and are STILL profitable.

    Negotiate for more trading privilege?

IRAs cannot take on positions with undefined risk. No company allows you to take undefined risk w/ IRAs. IB does allow naked puts in IRAs I believe, along with all kinds of spreads with DEFINED risk. If you don't know what defined/undefined risk is, you shouldn't be trading any short...

AMD Lost 400 Million in Q1: Only Has 1.2 Billion In Cash Reserves

"You hurt your own bottom line if you think you can hurt your opponent's more" Ok.. Intel reported in-line earnings, how did AMD hurt intel's bottom line? All they did was royally fuck their own bottom line.

Should you keep your trades secret?

Absolutely, if you want to buy a few million shares of a company, you don't want some house frontrunning you. As far as IB watching your trades, I wouldn't worry about keeping your trades secret unless you're trading $10 million+

    Just $10 a trade...

Well, he sounds like he's doing 5000 lot trades all the time or something.. In that case ameritrade would be a lot cheaper.

    Just $10 a trade...

A lot of retail traders don't trade 2000 shares+ / trade. Personally, I feel the flat commissions to be very restrictive, and encourage me to do strategies that arn't optimal (like i feel forced to trade size when I really shouldn't, otherwise I'm losing too much to commission). Plus I use...

I am looking for Most volatile instrument BUT need liquid too

If you know how to make money off FX, then yes, it's volatile, liquid, and you can do size too. You can use high leverage on top of that. I don't know the 1st thing about FX, so I would never touch it. But if you know it well, then I'd say it's the best market for you.

    Bid/Offer spread?

a nickel = $5 / contract avg size is prob around 10 contracts.. $50 / trade.. very significant.

    Bid/Offer spread?

They also round your order to the nearest nickel (down for your bids, and up for your offers) and send it to an exchange, so there's a chance that you can get filled at that (better) price too.

    Liberty Dollar (inflation proof)

The idea is a crappy one. If you want to hedge against inflation, then buy the gold or silver commodity, and lock it up in your safe deposit box. There's no need for an overpriced currency to take care of that. As far as counterfeiting his notes go, that's a good idea, you're not...

    I just got an assignment...HELP

So you traded options for 3 years, without knowing how they work. Knowing how options works includes what happens at exercise or assignment. I find it very hard to believe that someone who has 3 years options experience has no idea what happens to the writer upon assignment.
